When a company such as Roush Performance builds a high-performance Ford Mustang, owners are expected to take it to a track to extract all of the available performance. However, one unlucky Roush-tuned Mustang owner found himself in a high-speed chase while fleeing from police. According to The Drive, the driver eventually hit 178 mph before crashing and getting arrested.

The supercharged Ford Mustang should’ve pulled over

This Ford Mustang story begins with what seemed like a simple traffic stop. However, as soon as an Arkansas State Police officer flashed their lights, the Mustang driver took off and almost disappeared. According to The Drive, there is no clear indication of why the owner decided to run immediately. However, having a supercharged Mustang with almost 700 hp on tap likely played a role, if we had to guess.

Despite having a 700-hp Roush Ford Mustang, the driver couldn’t get away from the police-issued Dodge Chargers. According to FCA, a Dodge Charger Pursuit is available with a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 developing 370 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. While the power output is nowhere near that of the Mustang, these police cars kept up, reaching speeds of over 150 mph. The result was that although the Ford Mustang owner opened up a small by reaching a reported 178 mph top speed, he was never able to get away.

The Ford Mustang eventually crashed

To escape from the onslaught of chasing officers, the Ford Mustang driver turned to smaller streets. While reaching triple-digit speeds on a major highway isn’t a challenge, regular streets are a different story. While trying to flee, the driver understandably lost control of his 700-hp Mustang and crashed into the side of the building. From there, the driver was extracted from his car and subsequently arrested. Thankfully no one was injured.

However, the final scenes of the video reveal plenty of information. As the officers rush to the crashed Ford Mustang, we see that it features all of the Roush Stage 3 kit’s cosmetic packages. In terms of damage, the fleeing car is completely wrecked. From the video, we can clearly see that the rear left wheel is missing. It most likely was sheered off as the muscle car lost control. Given that it slammed into a building, its front right section was also severely damaged.

What is a Roush Stage 3 Mustang?

When it’s not involved in a high-speed pursuit, the Roush Stage 3 Ford Mustang is a phenomenal muscle car. Under the hood lives a 5.0-liter V8 with a 2.3-liter supercharger. Total output is rated at 675 hp, says The Drive. Additionally, the Stage 3 gets a new hood, front and rear bumpers, and an upgraded exhaust system.

If you want a Roush Mustang, you have two choices. Firstly, you can purchase a pre-built car from a normal Ford dealership. If you already have a Mustang GT with Performance Pack, you can purchase the Stage 3 kit separately. According to Road and Track, the kit will set you back just shy of $25,000. Once you factor in the donor car’s base price of around $42,000, you’re looking at a $67,000 muscle car at the cheapest.

Learning how special the Roush Mustang makes seeing a crashed example quite painful. Regardless, the lesson here is, even if you have all of the horsepowers in the world, you’re not getting away.
