Three Reasons the 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Is the Perfect Sports Car
When you think of iconic sports cars, Porsche is a brand that typically comes to mind. This car manufacturer is so beloved by loyal fans that some are even willing to spend millions just to add a Porsche to their collection.
According to Porsche, when the Cayman GT4 is released in 2020, along with the upcoming Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder, they will take their place as the companies two “most powerful and engaging variants of the 718 line-up.”
With that in mind, let’s take a look at what makes this vehicle so deserving of that distinction along with the features that still make the Cayman GT4 worthy of being called the perfect sports car.
1. Engineered with Power in Mind
The designers may have removed the turbocharged flat-four engine that was used in previous incarnations of the Cayman, but it’s obvious that they were looking to pack a lot of power under the hood with the inclusion of a new 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six engine in this model of the GT4.
This engine is capable of delivering 414 hp and 309 lb.-ft of torque and, when paired with this car’s six-speed manual transmission, drivers will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 4.2 seconds and achieve speeds of 188 miles per hour.
When it comes to sporty driving, the experience isn’t quite complete without that revving sound that signals just how much power is hidden away under the hood. In an effort to perfectly achieve that sports car sound, designers developed a new sports exhaust system that perfectly pairs with the flat-six sound of the engine, so that drivers can get that authentic sports-car experience.
2. An Exterior that Exudes Sports-car Styling
It only takes one look at the exterior of the GT4 to immediately see that this Porsche screams “sports car.” With its combination of sport-car character and track-oriented performance, the Cayman GT4 is streamlined for performance with features like a newly designed rear diffuser that reduces downforce by 50% over previous models.
The exhaust pipes on this model have also gotten a redesign from those on the 718 Cayman that preceded this model. On the GT4, the exhaust pipes are spaced farther apart and stretched into ovals, so that they will perfectly fit into the new diffuser.
3. A Luxuriously Sporty Interior
Meanwhile, the interior of the GT4 perfectly demonstrates just how sporty and stylish this car truly is. Designed to underscore the Motorsport heritage and driver-focused nature of this vehicle, the GT4 offers interior features like a GT Sport steering wheel, standard Sport Seats Plus, and a shorter shift lever to make shifting quicker, while providing drivers with a direct and crisp feel when changing gears. The steering wheel, shift lever, and seat centers are also luxuriously covered in Alcantara.
The Ultimate Sports-car Experience
With the release of the Cayman GT4, the designers at Porsche have obviously worked hard to cater to their audience of sports-car enthusiasts who enjoy revving engines and shifting gears as they cruise along the open road in luxury. With the GT4, owners will be able to enjoy all of that when they get behind the wheel of this model that offers a high-performance upgrade to previous models.
The MSRP for the Cayman GT4, with standard features, is $99,200 and, while it isn’t expected to reach U.S. dealers until the spring, it is currently available for order. So, if you’re interested in getting behind the wheel of this highly-anticipated sports car, then get your order in early to make sure that you’ll be among the first to drive the GT4 off the lot.
