If you like mindlessly scrolling through TikTok every day, then you have likely come across a lot of different hacks. On the popular social media platform, you’ll find plenty of car hacks. Some of our favorites include tinting your car’s windows using charcoal toothpaste and maple syrup or starting your car by pulling up on the window switches.

Unsurprisingly, neither of those two TikTok car hacks actually work. But one simple hack that does work is the nifty interior grab handle hack.

What is the TikTok interior grab handle hack?

According to Distractify, one TikToker, @jmac8781, recently discovered a secret feature on her car’s interior grab handles – also referred to as the “oh s#*t” handles. Typically, when you fold down the handle to grab it or to hang something on it, it usually pops back up. However, this simple hack involves the little tabs underneath the handle. The TikToker found that when you pull down on the handle and then pull the tabs underneath, the handle stays in place.

Voila! You now have a stationary handle in which you can hang lighter items like one shirt or a pair of pants from. Now, you no longer have to worry about the handle popping back up and ruining any clothes or other items that are hanging on it. Yes, it’s a super simple hack, but like most of them, it can be useful in the most random situations. Also, it works, unlike some other hacks that you’ll find on the app.

This hack doesn’t work on every car

Before you go out to your car and check the interior grab handles for this little tab, it’s worth noting that not every car has this feature. For example, after reading about it, I went out to my 2022 Lexus UX 200 press car that I’m driving around for the week to check its handles. After inspecting all four of them, I was sad to find that none of them had this handy little locking feature.

Instead, the rear handles each have a little hook that you can hang clothes or whatever else, on. Fortunately, I didn’t have to run down a hallway and take an elevator to the car like that TikToker did just to try it out. But it’s nice to know that the Hyundai Kona has locking handles, while the most-affordable Lexus does not.

Don’t mess up your car trying to find this TikTok hack

By now, you’re probably itching to find out if your personal car has locking interior grab handles like the Kona. It might, but just know that it could take a little ingenuity or elbow grease to find it. According to some of the comments in the TikTok video, many commenters said that they found the hack in their cars while others had to use their keys to pry the tab down.

Just as a word of caution, try not to pry too hard on any tabs as you can easily break or scratch something. When it comes to plastic scratches are forever. And when it comes to free TikTok hacks like this one, the knowledge is priceless.
