Jeep decided to do something weird this year with the Grand Cherokee. Yes, there is an all-new 2022 fifth-generation Grand Cherokee that brings a lot of features to the table. But, the company is still selling the old one. The fourth-generation version is still at dealerships, but Jeep’s calling it the Grand Cherokee WK. Most of the time when a new model is out, the old one goes away.

In this case, the Jeep Grand Cherokee WK SUV is simply too popular to kill.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee WK is a classic

The fourth generation of Grand Cherokee was launched in 2010 as a 2011 model. And, while it’s getting a bit older, keep in mind that it’s still a one-year newer platform than the latest 4Runner. But the WK2, as it’s called by Jeep fans, combines classic Jeep good looks with a stout steel unibody designed by Mercedes-Benz. It simply looks like what a Grand Cherokee should look like. Jeep hasn’t said whether it will continue to sell the WK.

The Grand Cherokee WK is capable

Sure, the new off-road tech in the 2022 Grand Cherokee is hard to beat. But, in the WK you still get an incredibly capable four-wheel drive, five-passenger, SUV. You can order the WK with the Quadra-Trac II system, which is an automatic four-wheel drive that sends traction to the wheels with the most traction. It also has hill descent control and hill start assist. Also, don’t forget, that it comes with a reliable, according to J.D. Power, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6.

The WK is cheaper

The Laredo E trim of the WK starts at $37,375. The new 2022 version starts at $38,720. While that’s not a huge price difference, a lot of the options packages are cheaper, too, and the four-wheel drive is a $1,925 option on the WK. We’d spring for the Laredo X, however, at $40,680, that

It still has modern tech

Don’t let the fact that it’s a last-generation version of the Grand Cherokee dissuade you from thinking that it’s not equipped. Jeep continuously updated the Grand Cherokee WK, and it comes with the latest easy-to-use voice-operated uConnect system, as well as a large touchscreen, terrain control knob, a seven-inch digital driver display, and more. The Selec-Terrian system lets you select from several modes for serious off-road fun, and the off-road pages feature shows you the data on everything from how far your suspension is traveling (in case you lift a wheel), and tilt and pitch angles. Also, it comes with several driver aids like parallel park assist, trailer sway control, and lane departure and lane keep assist.

The Grand Cherokee WK has a great interior

Again, the new one is a step up with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and optional quilted leather. But, inside, the WK sets a high standard. It has quiet acoustic glass, which quiets the interior, as well as active noise cancellation in some models. You can also get a dual-zone air conditioner, heated seats,  leather, and more in the supportive seats.
