While Duesenbergs and Ferraris will always be high on collector car want lists they’re mostly unaffordable. There are less expensive examples of motoring majesty that are seeing quite a lot of activity. They’re also seeing a lot of hiked prices with more stepping up to add to their collections and enjoy. Our friends at Hagerty Insurance keep track of this type of thing because they insure collector cars and the classics. They have to know so they can value and back the insurance their members purchase. What they’re seeing are some interesting cars from the 1970s and 1980s popping up to be insured. So, here’s 25 collector vehicles that are red-hot right now.

1980-1990 FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser

The SUV has been seeing more interest for the last few years but in 2019 interest spiked. First appearing in 1981 the Land Cruiser kicked things off with a 4.2-liter inline-six engine from the FJ40, then added some extra features. Average values are in the $20,000 range, with #2 condition Cruisers going for $10,000 more.

1999-2005 Miata MX-5 NB

These are the second-gen versions. The 1.8-liter engine wasn’t as powerful as later Miatas, but these NBs are lighter and handle better. Average values have risen almost 25% in three years and 15% just in the last year to around $7,400. 

1993-1995 Cadillac Fleetwood

Hagerty says the Fleetwood’s #2 values have risen almost 80% in the last year. Wow! Even at that pace, the Caddy is still affordable. Powered by a 185 hp 5.7-liter V8 it is selling for around $7,000 in #2 condition. 

The next three all tied for fourth place. In no particular order, they are the 1993-2002 Mazda RX-7, 1974-1983 Jeep Cherokee, and 2000-2003 BMW M5. The RX-7 has been steadily climbing for the last couple of years so it’s no surprise it’s showing up here. The Cherokee is a simple, light, adaptable Jeep that appeals to many. The M5 was a special car when it was new so it was only a matter of time before it began showing up on collector’s lists.

The next three were tied for seventh place; 1966-1977 Ford Bronco, 1973-1987 Chevy C/K Pickup, 1993-2000 Mercedes-Benz W202. 

These five tied for 10th place

There was a tie for 10th place with five collectible vehicles. They are the 1959-1972 Mercedes-Benz W108, W109, and W111; 1977-1989 BMW 6-Series and 7-Series, 1994-1999 Ferrari F355, 1996-2003 Mercedes-Benz W210, and 2003-2004 Mercury Marauder.

Three vehicles tied for 15th place including the 1987-1991 Ford Bronco, 1990-1998 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 1992-1996 Ford Bronco.

In 18th place was the 1981-1988 VW Scirocco Mk II.

At the bottom of the list but still gaining in value and interest

Four vehicles tied for 19th place. They are the 1976-1986 Jeep CJ-7, 1979-1985 Mazda RX-7, 1991-1996 Acura NSX, and 1967-1971 BMW 1600.

Rounding out the Top 25 list are eight vehicles that encompass the 1960s to the 1990s. Included in this list are 1965-1970 Buick LeSabre, 1967-1972 Chevy C/K Pickup, 1973-1991 GMC Jimmy, 1984-1993 Mercedes-Benz 190, 1990-1997 Lincoln Town Car, 1991-1996 Subaru SVX, 1992-1995 Ford Taurus, 1995-1999 BMW M3.
