The Toyota Supra has gained a cult following over the past few decades, and its legacy continues with the fifth-generation model. Starting in 2020, the A90 Supra brought back some nostalgia for enthusiasts, although it was mainly through its nameplate alone. Since BMW had a hand in this iteration, many Supra purists have turned a blind eye to the new model.

However, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be customized and modified to fit anyone’s personal taste. Here are the top five modifications that you can do to a 2020-2021 Toyota GR Supra.

1. A larger exhaust system can awaken the B58 beast under the Toyota Supra’s hood

The Toyota Supra’s B58 engine is quite the powerhouse from the factory. The only issue is that its exhaust note leaves a little to be desired. Luckily, there are plenty of aftermarket companies like HKS, Milltek, Remus, and Supersprint make axle-back exhaust systems that can uncork the Supra’s soundwaves. Especially at wide-open throttle.

2. A little ECU tuning can go a long way

Although the A90/A91 Toyota Supra is powered by a BMW B58 engine, the good news is that it’s been around for a while. This means plenty of aftermarket companies have already tuned the engine’s ECU to make more power.

One such company is Vivid Racing, which sells a reflash to increase the boost pressure and optimize the air/fuel ratio. According to the site, the VR-tuned ECU flash can squeeze out an extra 65 hp and 81 lb-ft of torque.

3. Lowering springs or coilovers can help the Supra’s appearance and handling

Although the fifth-generation Toyota Supra handles well in tight corners, it can always be improved upon. Also, some enthusiasts may think that the Supra rides too high. In either case, a set of lowering springs or coilovers can do the trick. These HKS HM Touring height-adjustable springs are good examples of what’s available for the Supra.

4. A set of aftermarket wheels can customize the Supra’s look

If you plan on lowering a Supra, then you might as well get a set of aftermarket wheels to match. Some popular wheel sets for the A90 and A91 Supra include WedsSport RN-55M, Volk Racing TE37SL, and Titan 7 T-S5s. However, plenty of other wheels will fit on the Supra, thanks to its 5×112 lug pattern.

5. An aftermarket steering wheel is an added plus

While the leather-wrapped steering wheel in the Toyota Supra is great, it can always be made better. Although it is wrapped, the steering wheel is somewhat thin, which doesn’t feel very sportscar-like. In that case, Vivid Racing makes a custom-built steering wheel with thicker grips that can be covered in different materials. The steering wheel can also be made in a flat-bottom configuration for anyone that wants a racier look.

Top 5 modifications for the new Toyota Supra

Although the fifth-generation Toyota Supra only came out a couple of years ago, there are plenty of ways to modify it. These aforementioned five mods are only the tip of the iceberg, but they are the most common. Sure, the Supra might be a BMW underneath, but it has a lot of untapped potential.
