Sometimes it can be beneficial to save with an off-brand, but probably not when it comes to the Jeep Grand Cherokee. There is a new option from South Korea that looks suspiciously close to the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee if people are brave enough to take a gamble.

The Torres is a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee copy

We understand that vehicles like the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee are expensive, making it difficult for people to go after the SUV of their dreams. The Grand Cherokee starts at $38,325, which is a high starting price.

This could cause people to select other options instead, but hopefully, the options are reputable. The SsangYong Torres just emerged as a Jeep alternative but looks suspiciously close to the Grand Cherokee.

Despite Jeep suing automakers like Mahindra for copying their models, the most iconic options in the lineup are still being copied. Jeep owns the rights to the seven-slot grille, but the Torres cleverly used a six-slot grille instead.

The look of the grille, headlights and front bumper seems to be directly taken from the Grand Cherokee. However, the rear end reportedly looks different. The body shape and back side remind us of the Ford Explorer.

How are the Torres and Grand Jeep Cherokee different?

The SsangYong Torres and 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee only have similar looks. Plus, the Torres is just playing dress-up. It looks rugged and like it could tackle the wild, but the skid plate is just aluminum.

You’ll have to spend more on a quality vehicle to gain off-roading capabilities. But the Torres stats at about $20,911. It’s pretty attractive with that price but were not sure how reliable the brand is. Also, an electric model is on the way for 2023.

We don’t have the official specs, but the Torres could be available with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 165 hp or a 1.6-liter diesel engine that cranks out 135 hp. This isn’t enough power for Americans.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine with 290 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 5.7-liter V8 engine for 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. The Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,400 lbs.

Does the Torres or Grand Cherokee have better features?

The SsangYong Torres looks like it features an upscale interior with leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and soft-touch covered surfaces. It may include heated and ventilated seats, but we don’t know how well the materials will hold up.

With the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, you can go for quilted-leather seats with open-pore wood trim, soft-touch covered surfaces, accent stitching, a hands-free liftgate, and a panoramic sunroof.

The Torres features a digital cluster display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and an 8-inch climate control screen. With the Grand Cherokee, an 8.1-inch touchscreen can be upgraded to a 10.1-inch screen. It also has a head-up display and an optional 10.1-inch passenger screen.

So, you can save with the Torres if you like the way it looks. Well, in other countries, at least. But the Grand Cherokee has more power, more capability, and offers more luxury.
