The 2021 G80 BMW M3 and its controversial nose just started arriving at dealerships across the country. However, it seems one BMW owner has already destroyed their brand-new vehicle. As of writing, we don’t know much about the details of this specific crash, but based on the video alone, there is tons of information to go over.

For starters, this video comes via Horsepower Lovers on YouTube. Thanks to the uploader, we get multiple views of the wrecked sports car. Unfortunately, it seems the roof might be the only panel that doesn’t have severe damage.

Before we dive into this crashed 2021 G80 BMW M3 story, it is worth going over the car’s exact configuration that appears in the video. In base trim, the current-gen M3 offers up 473 hp from its twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine. Additionally, all of that available power goes to the rear wheels exclusively to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

However, the BMW M3 in the video is not the entry-level trim. Instead, it’s a top Competition trim. This offers a few notable upgrades. For starters, the engine’s output goes up to 503 hp, again to the rear wheels. However, all-wheel-drive will arrive as an optional extra later on. Additionally, you can’t get the larger power output with a manual transmission.

If you option your Competition variant correctly with the M Driver’s Package, you can kick up the car’s top speed from 155 mph to 180 mph, says TopSpeed.

How did this brand-new car end up totaled?

If there is one thing that is abundantly clear from this 2021 G80 BMW M3 video, it’s that the damage is quite severe. For starters, we can see that the controversial front grille is destroyed along with the front right fender and the hood. Given the massive imprint on the hood itself, there is a good chance this car might’ve rear-ended a taller vehicle, sliding in underneath.

However, as we move down the sides of this 2021 G80 BMW M3, there is even more damage. This includes a dented door, a side-view mirror that’s nonexistent, and a destroyed rear wheel. This is where we get another major clue, seeing as the rear wheel is separated from the tire and has some grass on it.

Seeing these elements on a 500-hp rear-wheel-drive sports car might indicate a bit of drifting gone wrong. However, we will have to wait for a full report to tell. Regardless, this car is likely totaled.

It is worth going over this 2021 G80 BMW M3’s price since that is one of the main factors considered when an insurance company totals a car. According to Car and Driver, this occurs when the total amount needed in repairs gets close to the car’s original price tag. In this case, an M3 Competition starts at around $72,800.

From the video alone, it is hard to tell if there’s any structural damage. However, the car’s surface-level damage still appears quite severe. Given the high cost of parts and labor, the insurance company will likely total it.
