Sometimes SUVs have a great reputation for reliability, but how do they really hold up? It’s time to take a closer look at the Toyota 4Runner to see if it’s actually as durable as people think it is. So, is the Toyota 4Runner a reliable SUV?

Is the Toyota 4runner a reliable SUV?

Yes, the Toyota 4Runner is a reliable SUV. According to J.D.Power, the 2024 4Runner has a predicted reliability score of 86 out of 100, which is great.

Scores between 81 and 90 are above average while scores between 91 and 100 are best. It’s rare to see a score above the 85 mark.

One of the 4Runner’s main is the Jeep Wrangler and it has a predicted reliability rating of 84. The Ford Explorer is another popular option with a third row, and it has a score of 82. The 4Runner is a class leader in terms of reliability.

The average Toyota4 Runner model is expected to last between 200,000 to 250,000 miles. However, with routine maintenance and regular care, it can reach over 300,000 miles.

There are also examples of reliable 4Runner SUVs that have surpassed 400,000 and even 500,000 miles. But again, maintenance is the key to survival.

If you drive an average of 15,000 miles per year then your 4Runner could provide roughly 20 years of service.

The fifth Toyota 4runner generation lasted from 2010 to 2024. So, Toyota was able to work out potential issues with the 4.0-liter V6 engine and other areas. Plus, parts for repairs are widely available.

One of the most reliable Toyota 4Runner years is from 2022. The 2018 4Runner has zero owner complaints, according to CarComplaints. The 2023 model only has one reported problem related to the electric system due to rodent damage.

So, in short, the Toyota 4Runner is a reliable SUV that lives up to the hype. Hopefully, the sixth-generation model will have the same success.
