Toyota Gives the 2023 Sequoia the TRD Treatment
As Toyota’s large SUV, the Sequoia does not have the same name recognition as the 4Runner or Land Cruiser. But, for 2023 it does bring a lot to the table. That includes a TRD Pro trim that gives off-road capability to this three-row SUV. And although it might be the most expensive Toyota Sequoia, there is some justification to its cost.
What is the 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro?
The TRD Pro Sequoia is the off-road variant of Toyota’s three-row SUV. It comes outfitted with the same engine found in the Toyota Tundra, a twin-turbo V6 hybrid that makes 437 horsepower and 583 pound-foot of torque. And from our experience behind the wheel of the 2022 Tundra Capstone, it should be ample power for a vehicle of this size.
In addition to giving the 2023 Sequoia TRD Pro a twin-turbo V6, Toyota was also sure to provide the capability of four-wheel drive. A 4WD system comes standard on the TRD Pro Sequoia, and that is a nice feature to have if you plan to do some off-roading with your SUV.
The TRD Pro Sequoia looks aggressive
While there are plenty of 4×4 SUV features for the 2023 Sequoia TRD Pro, one of the big selling points of this vehicle will be its looks. A callback to early Toyota models, the TRD Sequoia comes with a heritage grille. This is made more prominent by an integrated LED light bar and amber marker lights.
Other changes to looks include 18-inch TRD Pro BBS wheels with TRD center caps. You will also get beefier tires. These tires will likely make this version of the 2023 Toyota Sequoia less comfortable to drive daily. But that trade-off might be worth it to some.
Is the Toyota Sequoia good off-road?
The TRD Pro Sequoia is especially capable for off-road use. It has 2.5-inch FOX internal bypass coil-overs as well as rear remote-reservoir shocks. The TRD Pro stabilizer bar should also aid if you plan to put your SUV in 4×4 situations.
Another notable feature of this 2023 Toyota Sequoia is it electronically locking rear differential. This key component comes standard on the TRD Pro trim. If you get into a tough situation, a locking differential can help you maintain traction.
How expensive is the Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro?
At $76,000, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is not cheap. It has the most expensive starting price of this three-row SUV. With a price like that, it will be interesting to see if the majority of buyers actually take this model off-road. When you get to a price point like that, damaging a vehicle on the trail might not seem like such a fun thing.
But, with all of the off-road tech, according to MotorTrend, the TRD Sequoia feels pretty harsh. So ultimately, it will fall on the buyer to decide if that is worth it. If you only off-road once or twice a year, you might want an SUV that feels comfortable driving to work or packing on the highway miles.
