Are you one of those people who think all new SUVs look and feel the same? Then seeing the new 2025 Toyota 4runner and 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser probably doesn’t help. But the new Toyota Land Cruiser actually has one massive benefit over the 4Runner.

The Toyota Land Cruiser is better for off-roading

Sure, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser and 2025 Toyota 4Runner seem pretty similar. They’re both boxy Toyota SUVs with rugged features for off-roading.

Plus, the Land Cruiser took a step back from its luxury roots, making it closer to the 4Runner’s price than it used to be.

Also, it’s worth noting that the Land Cruiser dropped its third row, but the 4Runner can still carry up to seven passengers.

But a massive difference stands out when it comes to off-roading and the Land Cruiser has a different type of suspension.

For example, the Land Cruiser has a full-time 4×4 system, allowing it to deliver extra traction and grip both on and off the road.

Plus, the Land Cruiser features a front stabilizer disconnect, low-range gearing, a locking rear differential, a multi-link rear suspension, and twin-tube shocks at each corner.

The 4Runner only has a part-time 4×4 system that isn’t built for dry conditions on the pavement. However, you can upgrade to higher trim levels of the 4Runner with a full-time system. It may be cheaper than the Land Cruiser, but we’re still waiting for prices to be revealed.

Also, the Toyota Land Cruiser has a standard hybrid engine. The turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid i-FORCE MAX engine is paired with two electric motors to generate 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

With the 2025 4Runner, you get a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. But you can upgrade to the same hybrid engine that’s offered with the Land Cruiser and new Toyota Tacoma.

The 2024 Land Cruiser has an MSRP of $55,950. The $1,495 destination fee brings the total starting price up to $57,445. Meanwhile, the 2025 4Runner is expected to start at about $43,000.
