Toyota Owns up to Tundra Engine Failure by Replacing Each One
Remember that massive recall for the Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX600 due to engine failure? Well after a few weeks of figuring out what to do, Toyota finally has a solution. Every engine will be replaced via Toyota’s pocket.
The Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX600 get new engines
When the recall for the Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX600 first dropped, Toyota spent time investigating a remedy. This meant that people with affected models had nothing to do but wait for a solution.
A few weeks have passed, and the answer is finally here! Toyota has decided to replace every single engine for $100k each.
The recall impacts roughly 102,092 vehicles, including 98,568 Tundra trucks and 3,524 LX600 SUVs. If every engine needs to be replaced then Toyota is looking at a hefty repair bill.
The Tundra models involved were built between November 2, 2021, through February 13, 2023. The LX600 models included were produced between July 30, 2021, through November 25, 2022.
Also, this isn’t for the hybrid engine. Only the twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine is at risk. It provides 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque in the Toyota Tundra and 409 hp and 479 hp in the LX600.
The recall is related to debris being left in the engine during the manufacturing process. This may cause the bearings in the main crankshaft to fail.
This may lead to a sudden loss of power or the engine could stall while in motion, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries. Signs that the engine is failing include loud knocking, running rough, an engine stall, or the failure to start.
But if this issue occurs in the hybrid engine, it will continue to have power for limited distances with audible warnings, warming lamps, and visual messages.
Toyota is currently unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue, but it did find 824 related engine warranty claims.
If your truck or SUV are at risk then you will be notified via mail. Toyota will send letters out by the end of July, which is right about now! You can also enter your vehicle identification number on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site to see if it’s included.
