Toyota Pickup Trucks Prove to Be Good Long-Term Investments
Some truck drivers will just drive until the wheels fall off. That is the case with two of these Toyota pickup trucks that last longer than the average truck. Both the Toyota Tacoma and the Tundra have a higher chance of reaching 200,000 miles or more. Historically, pickup trucks are built to be hard-working vehicles that generally rack up miles pretty quickly. Modern pickup trucks are comfortable family haulers, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t built to take a beating.
Two Toyota pickup trucks have proven to be long-term investments
When iSeeCars looked at some of the market’s longest-lasting vehicles, the list mainly comprised SUVs. Eight of the top 15 longest-lasting cars, trucks, and SUVs were Toyota vehicles. On average, only about 1.2% of all cars have 200,000 miles or more on the odometer.
Only six pickup trucks surpassed that 1.2%, and two were Toyota. The Toyota Tundra is a pickup truck that might last 200,000 miles, with 4.0% of Tundras on the road hitting that milestone. The Tacoma also made the list, with 2.8% of Tacoma trucks on the road hitting 200,000 miles or more.

Since new and used car prices are still higher than normal, drivers try to hold onto any vehicle longer. iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said, “Toyotas account for the majority of the top 10 longest-lasting vehicles, which validates the brand’s reputation for building enduring and reliable vehicles.”
Not all pickup trucks will last for 200,000 miles or more
The smaller Toyota Tacoma also has a reputation for lasting a long time. “The Tacoma is the best-selling midsize pickup thanks to its reliability, versatility, and high resale value,” Brauer said. Most people that pick up the Tacoma intend for it to hit 200,000 miles pretty easily.
Since these Toyota pickup trucks have been on the market for a long time, many online resources exist. Keeping up with routine maintenance and other upkeep is imperative for any vehicle, especially once passing 100,000 miles.
YouTube and RepairPal can be good places to learn more about maintenance. Some upkeep can be done at home with the right tools, but there are ways to estimate repair costs if it needs to go into the shop for something.
Toyota has the most high-mileage vehicles on the road
Around 3.7% of Honda Ridgeline trucks on the road have hit 200,000 miles or more. This is the only Honda truck on the market, but it was also only one of two vehicles from the brand to be included in the study. The other option was the Honda Odyssey minivan.
Other trucks in the top five include the Nissan Titan and the Ford F-150. Nissan has about 2.6% of its Titan trucks on the road with 200,000 miles or more. “Nissan has aggressively courted truck buyers in recent years, and the Titan’s long-distance reliability confirms the company’s effort to produce a durable work vehicle,” Brauer commented. Ford’s F-150 is just below that, with 2.4%.
Even though Toyota pickup trucks have proven to be long-lasting, the Toyota brand has 2.3% of its vehicles on the market with 200,000 miles or more. The average is only 1.2%, almost half of Toyota’s numbers. Brands can talk about reliability all day, but not all automakers can land on the list of longest-lasting cars, trucks, and SUVs.
