Did Toyota Just Reveal When the 2024 Tacoma Will Arrive?
When it comes to releasing a new truck, automakers like Toyota love to drop little hints and teases. And a post by Toyota USA seems to point to yet another clue about the 2024 Tacoma. This midsize truck has not had a full update in some time, and it’s starting to feel a little dated. That could all change soon if a new teaser from the brand is to be believed.
Will there be a 2024 Toyota Tacoma?
In recent weeks, it seems like we will see the 2024 Toyota Tacoma soon. The truck manufacturer has been posting more and more of what looks to be pointers to the future of this midsize pickup. And in a new image, rumors were quick to fly about the rear license plate.
In the image, the plate reads “040423.” While that might seem like a random number, there might be more than meets the eye. April 4th of this year is a Tuesday. And to Tacoma owners and enthusiasts, that is also known as “Taco Tuesday,” a day to post truck pics.
Now, Toyota has not confirmed whether these rumors are true or not. But it would not be the first time a manufacturer has left an Easter egg lying around. I’d be willing to wager that come April 4th, we will learn something new about the 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
It’s time for a new Tacoma
According to Car Scoops, the current-gen Tacoma is starting to feel pretty ancient compared to other midsize trucks. As brands like GM and Nissan have dropped new pickups, the Tacoma has remained largely unchanged for years.
There’s only so long that a company can rest on its laurels and still see a successful product. We do know some things about the redesigned Tacoma. This midsize truck will ride on the TNGA-F platform, shared with the new Tundra. And we’ll probably see some new powertrain options.
One of the biggest complaints about the Toyota Tacoma from myself and others is that it feels underpowered. And the six-speed automatic transmission is not all that great. It would certainly be an improvement if Toyota dropped its turbo-four engine with 295 horsepower and 310 pound-foot of torque into this truck.
Personally, I’ve got my fingers crossed for the 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 to make an appearance. But Toyota might reserve that engine for its more expensive products, despite it being a great engine that we would love to see more of.
Can you get a 2024 Tacoma?
At this point, the redesigned Toyota Tacoma is not available. However, we do expect the brand to reveal its small pickup in the near future. Potentially as soon as April if the social media post is to be believed.
The current Tacoma came out for the 2016 model year, and it is probably time for a serious redesign. That way, this truck can fall in line with what Toyota has been doing in recent years. Until then, this does remain one of the best-selling midsize pickups on the market.
