Get ready for more compact trucks! Toyota could be the next player to enter the game with a tiny truck to battle the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. The Toyota Stout could be a real contender based on the notes taken from current rivals. 

The Toyota Stout is coming to battle the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz 

The Toyota Stout might be in the works, but Toyota is being pretty sneaky about its development. We know that the pressure is on as Toyota dealerships claim the demand for a smaller Toyota truck is real. 

Toyota engineers were just caught in Michagin getting hands-on with the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. This could be to ensure that the Stout pickup truck is built better than these options. 

Personally, I’m happy to see the Santa Cruz be included. Despite not being as popular as the Maverick, it’s a solid little truck with an athletic performance and comfortable ride. But the Maverick is a bit of a larger contender thanks to its hybrid powertrain. 

Toyota hasn’t released much information about the Stout, but we could learn more soon. It could be out in Michigan soon wearing camouflage wraps to keep its final design out of view.

Many rumors suggest that the Stout will be an entry-level electric pickup truck with a starting price of around $23,000.  However, it could share a hybrid and PHEV powertrain with the RAV4. 

Toyota wants to match the affordability of the Maverick, which currently has a starting MSRP of $23,815. Going for the hybrid costs more. 

Also, the Stout will ride on the TNGA platform for compact vehicles. The Toyota RAV4 and Corolla both use this platform. 

While turning the RAV4 into a truck makes sense as the Maverick is based on the Escape and the Santa Cruz is based on the Tucson, the new Toyota truck might be based on the Corolla. 

Toyota wants the Stout to tow up to 5,000 lbs. This matches what the Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline can tow, and the Maverick maxes out at 4,000 lbs.
