1 Toyota Supra Engine Is Getting Dropped Due to Lack of Demand
Some engines bring the boom as other engines meet their doom. We’re saying goodbye to one Toyota Supra engine because no one is buying it. Now the iconic Supra will be left with only one option.
The 2025 Toyota Supra loses an engine
Say goodbye to the standard 2024 Toyota Supra engine. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque is being dropped due to a lack of sales.
However, every Supra model isn’t doing so hot. In 2023, only 2,652 models were sold while the Mazda Miata sold 8,973. I like driving the Supra more, even though it’s not available as a convertible.
For 2025, the standard Supra engine is the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine unit with 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, but a six-speed manual transmission is also available.
While the power boost is exciting, the 2.0-liter engine was more affordable. The 2024 Supra 2.0 has an MSRP of $46,400 and the Supra 3.0 starts at $55,400. That’s a $9,000 difference.
But going for the 3.0 model also adds 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, an active sport rear differential, Brembo four-piston front brakes, a front strut tower brace, adaptive suspension dampers, heated exterior mirror, power-adjustable seats, heated seats, and a 10-speaker audio system.
The Toyota Supra 2.0 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.9 seconds and the 3.0 model can get there in about 3.9 seconds. Both engines sound fun to me, but the upgraded brakes promote more confidence.
With the 2.0 model, you get an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and up to 31 mpg on the highway. With the 3.0 engine, you get an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and up to 31 mpg on the highway.
This tracks as during my week with the 3.0-liter Supra, I hovered around 27 mpg. I made multiple trips on the interstate and around the city.
Anyways, if you want to save with the more affordable engine, you better hurry. It won’t be available in 2025.
