An electric Toyota Tacoma pickup truck is an amazing next move for Toyota. The Japanese automaker is slowly electrifying more of its lineup. By 2030, Toyota will offer several new electric vehicle nameplates. The company has already launched the Toyota bZ4X electric SUV.

An electric Tacoma could be huge because it would be even better off-road. The Taco is an off-road pickup truck, and it has become a favorite among off-roaders. There has been a huge demand for off-road vehicles in recent years. This demand has skyrocketed the value of used Tacoma models.

Toyota offers several off-road trims for the Tacoma. A Tacoma BEV will have the benefit of an electric motor driving power to its wheels instead of a gas engine. Fully electric vehicles like the Rivian R1T have proven themselves to be extremely capable off-road.

A Toyota Tacoma BEV is going to be more affordable than a Rivian R1T

According to Car and Driver, the Toyota Tacoma BEV has an estimated starting price of around $50,000. While this is much more expensive than the gas-powered Tacoma, the BEV version would still be more affordable than the Rivian R1T off-road electric truck.

The 2022 Rivian R1T Launch Edition starts at a whopping $85,000. The most affordable trim, the R1T Explore, starts at $67,500. Every version of the Rivian R1T will be much more expensive than the base model Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma BEV may not be incredibly affordable, but it has the potential to become a budget R1T because of its off-roading history and electric powertrain.

The Rivian R1T is an amazing off-road electric pickup truck. It has been getting plenty of praise from multiple automotive publications because of its capabilities.

America is ready for an electric Tacoma

The Toyota Tacoma is available in several different trim levels, including special off-road trims. America is ready for an even more capable Tacoma model. The Toyota Tacoma Electric could potentially be the most capable Taco yet, hence its high estimated price compared to the gas-powered model.

Electric vehicles are becoming much more common in America. If there was ever a time for an electric Taco, it’s now. Expect plenty of hype when Toyota releases more information on the innovative new truck.
