The Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier prove smaller is better
Have you noticed that trucks keep getting bigger and bigger? The first generation Ford F-150 was 36% cab and 64% bed length. The current model is 63% cab and 37% bed. However, the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier prove that not everyone wants an insanely large truck
The Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier prove that smaller trucks
I’m giving props to the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier for outselling their bigger brothers, the Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan.
To be fair, the Nissan Titan didn’t have much of an edge over the Frontier due to being outdated, but it has a standard V8 engine and tons of space.
Anyways, in 2023, the Tacoma sold 237,323 trucks, which was a 1.1% sales decline over 2022. The 2023 Toyota Tundra moved 125,185 trucks, which was a sales increase of 26.8% compared to 2022.
However, despite having excellent growth, the Tundra was still behind the Tacoma by about 112.138 models for a staggering difference.
In 2023, the Frontier sold 58,135 models. It actually faced a sales decline of 23.7% compared to 2022. The refresh in 2022 may not have made the Frontier modern enough to keep up with rivals.
But the Nissan Titan sold 19,189 on its deathbed. Somehow, the Titan managed to pull off a 27.4% sales increase compared to 2022. It trailed the Frontier by about $38,946 trucks.
The Titan didn’t make it to the top 15 best-selling trucks of 2023. The Toyota Tacoma landed in fifth place, while the Tundra came in sixth. The Nissan Frontier came in ninth place.
The best-selling truck of 2023 was the Ford F-150 which moved 750,789 units. The Rivian R1T is in 15th place with 19,410 sales.
It’s also worth noting that the compact Ford Maverick moved 94,058 models while the larger Ford Ranger only sold 32,334 trucks.
The Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier prove that you don’t have to be supersized to attract drivers. But the massive Ford F-150 might not ever be caught!
