Sometimes it’s hard to let go of the trucks you love, like the Toyota Tacoma. But by upgrading to the Toyota Tundra, you’ll still enjoy Toyota features, just in a larger package. There are plenty of benefits when trading the Tacoma for the Tundra. 

The benefits of upgrading for the Toyota Tacoma to the Tundra 

A majority of Toyota Tacoma owners eventually upgrade to the Toyota Tundra for various reasons. Some Tundra owners come from the Chevy Silverado or Ford F-150, but it looks like Toyota fans stay loyal to the brand. 

According to Torque News, owners of the Tacoma shared why they switched to the Tundra, and there are a lot of practical reasons to consider. People upgrade to the Tundra even though it costs more. 

1. The Tacoma is smaller than the Toyota Tundra 

Alright, so duh, of course, the full-size Toyota Tundra is larger than the Toyota Tacoma. But that’s a significant reason for switching trucks. Multiple people complained that the interior of the Tacoma is just too small. 

This is especially true when it comes to having a family. Previous Tacoma owner Jemery shared that the Tacoma is really popular among single people in their 20’s and 30’s. But as they have children, they need more space, and the Tundra is a natural progression. Jeremy thinks the Tacoma is great, but it doesn’t serve as a family option at all. 

Josh traded his Tacoma for the Tundra for more interior space and a larger truck bed. While he misses being alone in the Tacoma for daily driving, upgrading to the Tundra is a no-brainer for hauling the family around on weekends. 

2. The Tundra is more capable than the Tacoma 

Again, duh. Of course, the V8-powered Toyota Tundra is stronger than the Toyota Tacoma. The Tundra can tow more and carry more weight. But the agile Tacoma is still the better option for hard-core off-roading. 

Anyways, Josh and Angie both traded their Tacomas for the Tundra for more towing power. While towing is great with the Tacoma, it’s even better in the Tundra. The Tacoma struggled with Josh’s boat, but the Tundra handles it just fine. 

When properly equipped, the Toyota Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 lbs, which is below average compared to rivals. It can also carry a payload of up to 1,685 lbs. 

Meanwhile, the 2022 Toyota Tundra can tow up to 12,000 lbs. The previous generation could only tow 10,200 lbs, so this is an impressive increase. It can carry a payload of up to 1,940 lbs. 

3. The Tundra still has Tacoma benefits 

The Toyota Tundra is the most reliable truck you can buy. The Toyota Tacoma is the second most reliable option. So, the Tundra still serves as a long-lasting, durable option. With proper care and maintenance, it could make it past 300,000 miles. 

Plus, like the Tacoma, the Tundra retains its value. Toyota trucks depreciate at a lower rate than rivals. So if you switch to the Tundra and don’t like it, you might be able to trade it in without losing much cash.
