Truck sales for the first half of 2024 have some crazy results. Some popular full-size trucks like the Ford F-150 have decreasing sales while underdogs like the Toyota Tundra have increasing sales. But the F-150 and other rivals aren’t shaking in their boots about it.

The Toyota Tundra has increasing sales but it’s not a treat

I’m proud of the Toyota Tundra for improving its sales. When the new generation launched, it had a few problems related to the trim pieces falling off, electrical problems, and debris that may have been left in the engine during the production process.

But after a few different recalls, things are on the up and up. In the first half of 2023, the Tundra sold 59,735 trucks. In the first half of 2024, it sold 78,454 trucks. This is a 31.3% year-over-year sales decrease.

Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 struggled with declining sales. During the first half of 2023, the F-150 sold 382,893 trucks. In the first half of 2024, that figure was reduced to 352,406 models. This represents an 8.0% sales decrease.

But the F-150 is still ahead of the Tundra by 273,952. The year is still early, so the Tundra could grow even more, but it still probably won’t catch the F-150.

Also, it isn’t the truck with the biggest sales decline. The Ram 1500 sold 223,409 trucks in the first half of 2023 and only sold 179,526 models, for a 19.5% sales decrease.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 moved 264,070 models in the first half of 2023 and 272,435 trucks in the first half of 2024 for a 3.2% sales increase. It has the best chance of catching the F-150. But the F-150 is currently 79,971 trucks ahead.

The sales decrease for the F-150 could be attributed to rising prices, production delays due to switching to the updated 2024 model, and supply chain disruptions.

Increased sales for the Toyota Tundra might be attributed to increasing production, its reputation for reliability, and the new hybrid engine. However, it;’s still struggling behind the pack of domestic options.
