Toyota’s Most Popular Pickup Truck Finally Gets Enough Power to Deserve Brakes From the 21st Century
The Toyota Tacoma has had a very hard time joining us in the 21st century. Why that may be a little hyperbolic, Toyota is notorious for letting its 4×4 bruisers go unimproved for years, even over a decade in some cases. Short of an aesthetic update in 2016, the Toyota Tacoma has seen little to no major mechanical improvements since 2005. Sure, little things have changed here and there, but as far as a significant new engine, transmission, brakes, interior, or chassis update, it’s largely untouched. However, Toyota seems to be changing all that in the form of a new hybrid engine, but also better brakes for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is getting new brakes
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is probably the most anticipated new truck for 2024. The reason is that Tacoma hasn’t really changed much over the years. In fairness, why fix what ain’t broke?
Well, Toyota is finally fixing it anyways. One of the major updates to the new Tacoma is a new, high-powered hybrid powertrain. While most of what is floating around on this subject are rumors and conjecture, the most popular (and well-informed) of these rumors is that a pair of four-cylinder engines are coming for the 2024 Tacoma. No matter what these engines are, it’s safe to assume that at least one of them is going to be more powerful than the woefully outdated V6 in current models.
Anyways, with a new, more powerful engine inbound, Toyota has finally (thankfully) announced that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will get rear disc brakes to match the front brakes. Yes, this whole time, the Tacoma has had rear drum brakes. Taco fans have fussed about this since the dawn of time. According to The Drive, Toyota’s little truck was basically guaranteed to switch to disc brakes for better performance and safety. Hell; most other truck manufacturers did this over 10 years ago.
Toyota is serious
Still, hearing it from the source means more before the reveal. It’s a strong play by Toyota to drum up excitement for its most popular pickup truck. The fact that Toyota is giving this significant detail now suggests that Toyota plans to build a fancier Tacoma than ever before. While we know all-four discs are an option, we hope it’s a standard feature.
What else is new for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma?
New photos show a glimpse of new shocks from Fox Racing. While we don’t have any details yet, you can rest assured there will be a super-tough off-road trim with plenty of new bells and whistles. We’ve also seen pictures of the front headlight assembly, the bed, and the tailgate. The last major detail is the new TNGA-F architecture which is the same chassis that underpins the Tundra. Some shadowy photos are teasing the profile of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma as well, but those aren’t overly informational.
The day is coming soon. Toyota is showing more and more, which shows us, the reveal is inbound.
