Transmission Failure Is Already Killing 2024 Toyota Tacoma Models
It’s hard to wait for a new truck, but sometimes it’s best to avoid the first model year. This way resigned trucks like the Toyota Tacoma can have time to correct a few issues. For example, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma could have transmission failure to solve.
Transmission failure plagues the 2024 Toyota Tacoma
Sorry, Toyota fans, I know this is hard to hear. But like the new Toyota Tundra, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma may have launched with severe issues to correct, including transmission failure.
We’re at the beginning of the transmission investigation. So, we only have reports from owners who have been facing problems with their new trucks. However, an official investigation and recall could be on the way.
According to Utamed Motors, people are experiencing smaller problems such as their transmission overheating, losing the fourth and sixth gear, and rough shifting.
Manual transmissions have been popping in and out of neutral, and each of these issues indicates that a bigger problem is on the way.
People are making complaints about the rough shifting and the manual transmission popping out of gear after a few days with their trucks. One driver had his transmission die at the dealership after 2,700 miles and two weeks of ownership.
Upon further inspection, metal shavings were found in the transmission, and the transmission fluid shocked.
But there isn’t a solid solution to this problem, yet. So far, some owners are getting their transmissions replaced but this process can take up to four months or more.
Luckily, the transmission is covered underwarranty, so owners don’t have to pay out of pocket. But if they aren’t given loaner vehicles, they could be out of luck for months.
Each 2024 Toyota Tacoma is protected by a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
It’s available with a six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) with automatic rev-matching, clutch-start cancel, and anti-stall technology. There’s also an available eight-speed automatic transmission.
This problem could be related to a few of the first trucks built for 2024, but it could also be related to every new model. Stay tuned for updates.
