Transmission Updates Don’t Help the 2022 Chevy Tahoe yet
The Chevy Tahoe is trying to get better and better, but it’s not there yet. However, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe just gained a revised 10-speed automatic transmission that might help it later. We’ll keep an eye on the Tahoe for quality and performance updates.
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe got a new transmission
Just in time for New Year’s resolutions, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe is working on providing a better ride quality with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. But it hasn’t exactly been enhanced yet, and new updates could be on the way.
The new transmission includes RPO code MHS, and the updated gearbox allows manufacturing and dealer teams to easily align the specific calibration needed for the transmission. It also allows the transmission to receive over the air (OTA) updates, which may arrive later.
General Motors seems to be making it easier to update transmission tuning and calibration to prepare for the future. This may help with the networked Vehicle Intelligence Platform/Global B electronic architecture as options like the Chevy Silverado EV arrive.
The revised 10-speed automatic transmission comes with the 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 engines. The 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel engine is paired with the current 10-speed automatic transmission.
Don’t worry. Just because the diesel engine didn’t get the revised system doesn’t mean it’s in danger of going away. It’s currently not being discontinued.
What’s new for the 2022 Tahoe?
Aside from a revised transmission, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe gained more tech and is a little easier to customize. You can get started in a 2022 Tahoe for about $50,200. This is the MSRP, so the price doesn’t include dealership markups or destination fees.
The 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque is now available with the RST, Z71, and Premier trim levels. The base engine is the 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
With the 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine, you get 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. To improve off-roading, the Z71 trim now has a limited-slip differential.
Each Chevy Tahoe model aside from the base trim now comes with a customizable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Plus, the LT trim and up have been enhanced with Google’s voice assistance, maps, and an app store.
You can access up to 13 different camera views, and specific views for trailering are included. New standard safety features consist of automatic high beams, lane-keeping assistance, front and rear parking sensors, and more.
Is the 2022 Tahoe worth buying?
Yes, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe is a great SUV option that now includes more passenger and cargo space, especially in the third row. With the second and third-row folded flat, you can access up to 123 cubic feet of cargo space.
The interior features high-quality materials, and the interior provides a quiet environment at lower speeds. The independent rear suspension helps give a smoother ride too. Also, the Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 lbs.
However, the interior controls could have a more intuitive layout, and the heft of this massive SUV can be felt around turns. But these issues are too hard to get past with a powerful and capable family hauler.
