According to KBB, there are four different Nissan Frontier trim levels. Each one is available with different variants of a cab or powertrain. Firstly, the base Frontier S and SV come in either a King or Crew Cab and 2WD or 4WD. The King Cab and 4×4 are the most expensive variant of these two bottom trims. For instance, the 2022 Nissan Frontier SV King Cab 4×4 starts at $34,040. There’s also an available long bed with Crew Cab and 4×4, for an additional cost.

Next, the two higher trims, Pro-X and Pro-4X, are pretty different. The former is a 2WD performance version, while the Pro-4X only comes with 4WD. Unfortunately, the most significant difference is in the starting price. For the cheapest Pro-4X model, you’ll be paying roughly $10,000 more than the base model S.

2022 Nissan Frontier S ($28,140)

Without adding a single other feature, the final price of a Frontier S base model is $29,365. This price includes destination, freight, and any additional charges the automaker applies during the sales process. For such a low price, you might not expect much from the truck. However, it comes with a serviceable 3.8-liter V6 engine making 310 horsepower. Along with standard 2WD, the engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

As for technology, each S model comes with an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While it might not seem like much, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto are all you need for most vehicles. It turns the truck’s infotainment system into your phone, so it’s an excellent feature to have.

Like the base model before it, the SV gets a little more expensive at the time of sale. According to Car and Driver, it’s a $31,690 pickup truck after adding fees to the starting price. This model comes with the same engine, power, and transmission as the Frontier S. However; it adds some more to make it worth a few thousand dollars extra.

Starting with the Frontier SV, owners get a 6-way power driver’s seat, dual power outside mirrors, and a tow/haul mode. In addition, more optional features are unlocked at this price point. Things like a 9-speaker Fender audio system and a Long Wheel Base with a 6-foot bed are available, and the latter costs $1,900.

Once again, the price listed by the automaker doesn’t include destination and other fees. With those fees applied, the final cost of a Frontier Pro-X without any options is $35,390. Although it’s about $4,000 more expensive, the Pro-X trim makes it worth your while.

On top of everything included with previous models, this trim adds Bilstein shocks, an upgraded 9-inch touchscreen, plus a Pro-X design. Pro-X design changes make this pickup truck stand out from the competition. Specifically, this model has red accents on the exterior and charcoal and red on the interior.

2022 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X ($37,370)

After shipping and handling fees, the highest trim starts at $38,595. With everything the previous model has, it also gets Pro-4X design touches. These are slightly different from those of the Pro-X model. Most importantly, the Pro-4X is the only Nissan Frontier with standard 4WD. Plus, a few off-road features make it perfect for those who want to tackle any terrain.

Off-road features include an off-road suspension, an electronic locking rear differential, and three skid plates. The PRO Premium package that comes with the truck adds 17-inch Beadlock wheels, a 10-speaker Fender audio system, black interior stitching, a HomeLink Universal Transceiver, and more. Finally, the Convenience Package includes a wireless charger, a Class IV tow hitch receiver, heated front seats/steering wheel, a bed-mounted 120-volt outlet, and more.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier a good pickup truck?

The Frontier is an excellent option if you’re in the market for a midsize pickup truck. With a powerful V6 engine and plenty of technology available even on the base trims, you can’t go wrong. If you need more luxury and off-road-focused features, the top trims are the ones for you. Regardless of your needs, the Frontier has something for everybody.
