MotorTrend ranked 10 trucks with the best resale value in 2022, and the Toyota Tacoma earned second place on the list. If a driver sold their 2022 Toyota Tacoma after driving it for five years, it is expected that the truck would have more than half its original value. Considering the sort of wear and tear a pickup like the Tacoma would go through, it has an impressively high percent.

The Tacoma was defeated by the Ford F-250. The 2022 Ford F-250 is projected to maintain slightly more of its value after five years, with not even 1% more than the Tacoma. It is worth noting that the Ford F-250 is also considerably more expensive than the Tacoma.

Consumer Reports state that the F-250 has a starting price of $39,445, and Toyota lists the starting price of the 2022 Tacoma at $27,150. Buyers may save a bit more resale value with the Ford F-250, but they have to spend much more initially.

Overview of the 2022 Toyota Tacoma

Outside of the initial affordability and high resale value, there is a lot to like about the Toyota Tacoma. Long considered a highly practical choice of truck, the Tacoma is noted for its off-road abilities. Base trim Tacoma models come with either a 159-horsepower, 2.7-liter four-cylinder or a 278 hp, 3.5-liter V6.

The Honda Ridgeline is either famous or infamous, depending on who you ask, and it is sometimes viewed as being more of an SUV than a truck. This unusual design may be the reason for its poor resale value.

Hyundai earned the second-worst resale value title with the Santa Cruz, which retains just slightly better than the Honda Ridgeline. The Santa Cruz is a futuristic-looking compact pickup, but it has downsides that result in the low resale value. It compares poorly to another compact pickup, the Ford Maverick, contributing to the projected resale value. 

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma may not be a bold vehicle like the Honda Ridgeline. It does not attempt to redefine what a pickup truck is or anything like that. Instead, it offers the practicality and reliability of a mid-size truck, and this is likely why it retains its value more than almost any other truck.
