The Full-Size Truck With the Best Resale Value Isn’t the Ford F-150
Are you ready for a plot twist? The Ford F-150 might be the most popular truck but it doesn’t have the best resale value. If you’re buying a truck with value in mind, you might want to check out the Toyota Tundra or Ram 1500 Classic instead.
The Toyota Tundra is the full-size truck with the best resale value
Surprise, even though the current generation got off to a rough start, the Toyota Tundra is the full-size truck with the best resale value. It beats the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Chevy Silverado 1500.
According to iSeeCars, the Tundra has the best resale value after five years of ownership, the best truck overall, and the best full-size truck for the money.
The best resale value is determined by analyzing over three million vehicles to calculate how much each full-size truck depreciation after five years.
The Tundra maintains about 74.7% of its value after five years of ownership. The average five-year-old Tundra has a price of $39,545. The average truck maintains a resale value of 62.1%, so the Tundra is 12.6% ahead of the average.
Surprisingly, the Ram 1500 Classic is in second place and maintains about 64.1% of its value after five years with a five-year-old price of $27,927.
The Ford F-150 is currently in third place and retains about 63.6% of its value after five years with a sell price of $35,635. It’s about 1.5% above average.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 is down in sixth place with a resale value of 61.4% and a sell price of $36,652 after five years. Then the Ram 1500 claims ninth place with a resale value of 59% and a sell price of $35,894.
The previous generation Toyota Tundra has an excellent reputation for reliability and durability. The 2021 model has a score of 86 out of 100 from J.D.Power, which is an above-average rating.
But when the 2022 model launched the new generation, it rolled out with a few issues that caused its rating to drop to 70. Now the 2024 model has a reliability score of 78, so it is improving again.
Stay tuned because this dip in reliability could cause the resale values to change as some trucks may last longer than the updated Tundra.
