Remember when sedans were all the rage? Ford does, and it misses them. Even though the Ford F-150 makes more than enough money for the company, it wishes that small cars would make a comeback.

Ford wants you to want cars again

Ford is really known for its primary breadwinner, the Ford F-150. However, there used to be excellent cars like the Maverick, Focus, Taurus, Fiesta, Crown Victoria, and Fusion.

Ford, CEO, Jim Farley misses them dearly. He said that Ford needs to make Americans fall in love with small cars again. He knows the nation is in love with monster vehicles, but there is a major issue with weight and sustainability.

This is a little strange coming for him because helped the crusade against smaller sedans.

Ford rolled back every sedan in 2018 due to rising production costs, rising emission standards that would be difficult to meet, and a decline in sales.

Farley basically pivoted away from cars to give people what they wanted, which was massive trucks and SUVs.

As sales of the Focus and other cars declined, the F-150, Transit Vans, F-250, and Expedition. In 2020, Ford sold two million vehicles and 700,000 of them were trucks. Only 163,000 models were cars, but to be fair only the Mustang was available.

In 2020, when Farley became the Ford CEO, he could have circled back to cars, but instead, he decided to invest in building electric vehicles. But Ford is starting to ease off EV development as demand declines.

Farley says the market needs to focus on smaller and lighter EVs and gas-powered cars. Hughes EVs may never make money because of the $50,000 batteries. EV trucks and three-row SUVs could never be affordable.

The Super Duty trucks require batteries that are heavier than the Honda Civic. Which is a popular car that starts at $23,950.

With a recession looming, auto inventory is overpiling at dealership lots. People think that if they wait to buy lower prices will come.

But the only small vehicle Ford has to compete with is the Ford Maverick. So how about launching a cheap hybrid car?

Also, Ford sold 750,789 F-Series trucks in 2023 and made a profit of $176.2 billion. Selling big vehicles is working.
