Is the new Toyota Tundra‘s interior any good? Is it junky? Is it as reliable as past Toyotas? Lots of folks have questions about the third generation of Toyota’s full-size pickup truck. Here’s the honest truth: Toyota significantly upgraded every aspect of its all-new 2022 Tundra‘s interior. While the truck’s critics noted that it is not as posh as certain rivals, it seems designed to hold up for a long time–even in some upper trim levels.

The third-generation 2022 Toyota Tundra received a major interior upgrade

The centerpiece of the third-generation Tundra’s cabin is its brand-new infotainment screen. Lower trim trucks come with a 8.0-inch unit, upgradeable to 14-inches (which is standard on upper trims).

The truth is that Toyota very rarely upgrades its truck, so this latest redesign will have to remain relevant for years–and it likely will. Not only is Toyota now offering one of the largest screens in the segment, it responds to voice commands too. Toyota is not afraid to integrate outside software such as Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The system even leverages Google Maps for its navigation to offer business hours and phone numbers right on the screen.

Toyota also offers an optional all-digital instrument cluster. This is 12.3 inches wide and of course features multiple layouts. Reviewers found it had great graphics and was so responsive it was difficult to tell it from the analog gauges. Tundras with analog gauges also feature a small infotainment screen in the driver’s display.

Tundras equipped with 4WD also have a range of off-road driver aids and a knob to control driving modes. Toyota Tundras with a forward-facing trail cam can display a full-screen feed in the infotainment center to show the terrain directly in front of your truck.

Some reviewers don’t like the redesigned 2022 Toyota Tundra interior, others recognize Toyota reliability

The third-generation of the Toyota Tundra’s interior is divisive. The automaker engineered it with blocky, squared-off surfaces. The result appears durable and utilitarian–but not everyone loves them.

Don’t think for a minute that the new Tundra’s interior is cheap. Reviewers agree that the build quality is excellent. What’s more, every single trim of the new Tundra has a unique interior flavor, using a completely different set of materials.

For example, the Toyota Tundra SR work truck features a tray on the passenger side large enough to hold a measuring tape or a set of gloves. Here’s another example, Toyota’s TRD Pro integrates a subtle camouflage design in its fender-flares, dashboard, and beneath the mesh of its seat cushions.

The 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra Platinum and 1794 are similar trucks with opposite interiors

Two interesting trim levels of the new 2022 and 2023 Toyota Tundra are the Platinum and 1794 Edition. They are set at nearly identical price points (just above the Limited). But while the Toyota Tundra 1784 Edition is a little bit country, the Toyota Tundra Platinum is a little bit rock and roll.

Like every trim, the Tundra Platinum features a unique grille. It also has stylish smoked gray trim instead of bright chrome. It also has a special set of matching 20-inch rims. The standard interior is black and trimmed with leather. Natrually it comes with the premium touch screen and digital driver’s display.

The Tundra 1794 Edition is named for the founding date of the ranch where Toyota builds pickup trucks in Texas. Its finished in full leather seats, in either “Saddle Tan” or “Rich Cream.” The exterior features chrome, though the interior features American walnut trim, the dashboard even branded with “1794 Edition.”
