Turbo Power Hardly Boosts the 2024 Toyota Tacoma’s MPG
We’re finally learning more about the redesigned Toyota Tacoma after months of juicy teasers. However, while the new turbocharged engine gives it a boost, it could still be quite thirsty. See how much mpg the gas-powered 2024 Toyota Tacoma gets.
How many mpg does the 2024 Toyota Tacoma get?
The most fuel-efficient 2024 Toyota Tacoma model aside from the new Hybrid is the SR5 trim with two-wheel drive. It gets an estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway.
Adding 4×4 drops these figures to 19 and 24 mpg. Sadly, this trim level isn’t available with the manual transmission.
The Tacoma SR, or the base model with 2×2, gets an estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway. Adding 4×4 decreases these numbers to 19 and 24 mpg. The manual transmission gets about 18 and 23 mpg.
With the Tacoma TRD Off-Road i-Force model, you get about 19 mg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway with 4×4. The manual transmission gets roughly 18 and 23 mpg. It has standard 4×4.
The 2023 Tacoma gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway. Getting an extra mile per gallon in the city and up to three on the highway is slightly better.
However, we were hoping for a more fuel-efficient taco. We haven’t lost hope because the figures for the new i-Force Hybrid engine haven’t been released. The electric motor and battery could help the engine save more fuel.
But the gas-powered Toyota Tundra gets up to 18 mpg in the city and up to 22 mpg on the highway. The Tundra Hybrid is rated to get an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway.
That’s only an advantage of two miles per gallon. Also, various critics have put the Tundra to the test only to receive lower results. Initially, rumors suggested that the Tacoma Hybrid could get up to 38 mpg, but we aren’t firm believers.
What engines come with the 2024 Tacoma?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma starts with a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. This engine has a higher output on higher trim levels.
For example, upgrading to a higher trim with the six-speed manual transmission increases the power to 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. With the eight-speed automatic transmission, you get 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque.
Then, the i-Force Max powertrain pairs the same engine with an electric motor and a battery pack to generate 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.
When properly equipped, the 2024 Tacoma can tow up to 6,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,709 lbs.
How much does the 2024 Tacoma cost?
Pricing for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma starts at $31,500. This is for the SR Xtra cab with 2×2. There are six trim levels available, and the Limited Double cab takes the price up to $52,100. There’s a broad range of options for utility, off-roading, and comfort.
These prices don’t include the $1,495 destination fee. The 2023 Tacoma starts at $28,600, so unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to the idea of getting a brand new Tacoma for under $30,000 soon. Also, the destination fee used to be $1,335.
While things are getting more expensive, at least they’re also getting better. The Tacoma carries on its solid, durable reputation with more power, updated tech, and enhanced off-roading capabilities. The value will most likely be solid.
We can’t wait to get behind the wheel. Until then, which Tacoma model piques your interest the most? We’re sure that the overlanding Trailhunter model is turning heads.
