Since the arrival of the Chevrolet Corvette C8, tuners across the U.S. entered a simultaneous race to set some records. However, unlike previous models, the current-gen Corvette’s ECU is proving quite difficult to crack. As a result, most of these cars haven’t reached their full potential at the track.

However, a Corvette owned by Emelia Hartford on YouTube just set a world record. Thanks to an intricate twin-turbo system, this C8 develops over 1,000 hp. In a recent video, we get to see the sports car complete the quarter-mile in less than 10 seconds.

This Chevrolet Corvette C8 has a fiery past

As you’d expect, taking a Chevrolet Corvette C8 past 1,000 hp is no easy feat. In fact, this particular C8 has had a bit of a fiery past. After getting its twin-turbo setup installed, this sports car’s original motor gave up. Thanks to helping from Texas Speed, the car received an LT2 V8 with forged internals. From there, the car caught fire for a brief moment while on track.

Since the Chevrolet Corvette C8’s stock dual-clutch transmission was never developed to handle a twin-turbo setup, it also broke. However, given how tight the current supply of C8 parts is, getting brand-new clutches was far from easy. Additionally, it meant tearing the entire engine apart to fix the transmission completely.

Once all of the physical components of this Chevrolet Corvette C8 fell inline, there came the issue of the car’s ECU. To solve this, Hartford decided not to try and crack the original unit. Instead, she opted for a standalone ECU, which would let her extract her car’s true potential. From there, the last step was to tune the transmission, and the powertrain was ready.

This run makes it the fastest C8 in the world

In an earlier video, Hartford took her Chevrolet Corvette C8 to a dyno and broke her first world record by developing 1,022 hp. From there, the car got a set of drag wheels and tires to attack the quarter-mile properly. As you’d imagine, reaching this maximum power output also means giving the car methanol racing fuel.

After a couple of back-to-back passes down the quarter-mile, the Chevrolet Corvette C8 eventually hits a record time of 9.418 at 144.84 mph. However, this car can likely improve on those numbers with additional tuning. Aside from breaking the record, Hartford’s team is dealing with brand-new components most tuning shops have no experience with.

As a result, it wouldn’t surprise us to see this C8 go even faster in the next few months.

How long will this record stand?

Despite being a wildly popular Chevrolet Corvette C8, this record will likely stand for quite some time. This comes down largely to the tricky ECU. Aside from opting for a stand-alone unit, there aren’t many tuners can do to extract big power out of this car. As a result, the twin-turbo kit itself isn’t the biggest hurdle on the table. However, as more cars head out of the assembly plant, it is only a matter of time before someone else comes for the record.
