Type S Integra Promises Power, But Will a Coupe Happen?
The upcoming 2024 Acura Integra Type S brings aggressive hot hatch DNA to the marque’s fun four-door car. Still, the beloved Integras of yesteryear were coupes with sports car credentials. So, will Acura make the 2024 Integra Type S in a coupe, too? Or will the Type S stick with the sensible four-door liftback platform?
Will Acura make a 2-door Integra?
Unfortunately for fans of the newly-revived Acura Integra, the sports sedan will continue to be a four-door liftback only. Even the new Acura Integra won’t pack a two-door coupe configuration in its stable. While it would have been cool to see an Integra channel the sports coupe platform of its 2001 predecessor, the Integra is still a vehicle to celebrate.
For instance, the Integra is another unique four-door application on the market with an optional manual transmission when three-pedal setups are getting scarce. Moreover, the prospect of a 2024 Acura Integra Type S with a six-speed manual is exciting. However, the new sports liftback will go without a coupe variation for fans who want an Integra closer to the two-door models of 2001 and before.
Will there be an Acura Integra Type S?
Fans of the Integra can celebrate; the 2024 model year will get a performance-oriented Type S option. However, it’s not just big brakes and a badge; the Type S is a direct sibling of the upcoming 2023 Honda Civic Type R. For instance, both cars get the turbocharged 2.0L inline four-cylinder mill and six-speed manual transmission. The Civic Type R produces 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
If the upcoming Type S produces that much power or more, the four-door liftback car promises to be a much more riotous machine than the 200-horsepower A-Spec. Moreover, even though the 2024 Acura Integra Type S goes without a coupe, it gets the Type R’s limited-slip differential and front-wheel drive (FWD) application. Still, we’re sure that fans would have liked a coupe option to complement the new Acura Integra lineup.
How much will the Integra Type S cost?
The new 2024 Acura Integra Type S will almost certainly cost more than the Civic Type R and its $43,990 price tag. CarBuzz says they bet the Type S will cost no less than $45,000. Moreover, even without a 2024 Type S coupe variation, the Type S will add a modicum of luxury to what Honda accomplished with the Civic Type R hot hatch.
Still, regardless of how much you spend, you won’t get an Integra Type S coupe. Unlike the Integras of past decades, the Acura model is a four-door liftback only. It’s a practical application not unlike a more traditional hot hatchback. However, it might lose some of its sports pedigree by forgoing a two-door application.
