If you’re searching for your next full-size truck, the worst model might be worth finding. For many reviewers like U.S. News & World Report, the pickup at the bottom of the list is there for many reasons. For example, the 2023 Nissan Titan has the highest starting price of anything in its class. As a result, U.S. News’ worst full-size truck is also the most expensive. What else makes it worse than its rivals?

U.S. News’ worst full-size truck

Each year, U.S. News & World Report experts make a list of the best models in each class. As a result, the bottom of the list discloses the worst model the reviewers think consumers can get. While it hasn’t been updated to a 2023 Nissan Titan yet, little has changed about the model. As a result, the 2022 Titan shown at the bottom won’t move when the latest model year is tested. The pickup earned just a 7.4 out of 10 from the publication, far below the class-leading Ford F-150 at 9.0.

Possibly the worst offense of the Titan is its massive starting price. For the cheapest version of Nissan’s full-size truck, customers will owe $43,285. For context, that’s a remarkable $9,000 more than the cheapest F-150 and $13,000 more than the most affordable 2023 Ram 1500. Many experts consider these the best models in their class, so why would anyone want to pay so much more for an inferior product?

According to Edmunds, the 2023 Nissan Titan remains unchanged for the latest model year. As a result, the issues U.S. News found with it for 2022 didn’t go anywhere. For example, it noted the interior can be found with “some low-rent interior materials.” The S base model, which is more costly than competitors, comes with cloth seats. Customers need to get the fully-loaded Platinum Reserve trim for leather sets, starting at $60,465.

Next, the publication lists towing capacity as another weak point. Despite every model using the same 5.6-liter V8 engine, it falls short of many rivals. According to U.S. News, the best Titan for towing and hauling is the Titan XD with a gooseneck trailer hitch. The Platinum Reserve model can tow 11,060 pounds and haul 1,890. Models appearing at the top of the best trucks lists can tow closer to 14,000 pounds.

Finally, the powertrain options for the Titan are lacking. The last reason Nissan’s offering is the worst full-size truck is the lack of powertrains. As mentioned previously, the only engine option is a powerful V8. Although it’s excellent for those seeking power, fuel economy is terrible and still isn’t as powerful as competitors’ biggest engines. With 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, the Titan gets an EPA-estimated 16 city and 21 highway mpg. Top models offer hybrid powertrains, V6 and diesel options, and more.

In conclusion, there are a few things the 2023 Nissan Titan does worse than its opponents. The best full-size trucks provide many powertrain options, ample towing capacity, and a high-quality interior. Nissan’s largest pickup lacks in all those areas. Especially with its cheapest models, the Titan costs far more than its rivals. When customers search for a new model in this class, it’s unlikely they’ll choose the one that costs more and offers less. According to U.S. News, that makes it the worst full-size truck.
