Uber Eats driver goes viral and earns enough tips to pay for ‘dream’ wedding
Paul Slobodzian and Aly Perkins, an Arizona couple with plans to get hitched, started driving for Uber to earn extra cash to fund their nuptials. Over the last 15 months, the couple worked delivering food, sometimes seven days a week. In June, Paul delivered a Chiptole order to Erica Hernandez, who found a handwritten note with the food.
“Thank you for your order! I’m delivering for [heart emoji] on the side to give my fiancée the wedding she deserves. Any additional tip through the app or Venmo is greatly appreciated!” Slobozian’s note read.
Hernandez was touched by the Uber driver’s honest card. In response, she posted the letter on her TikTok account. Not expecting much attention, she added, “I don’t have a lot of followers but hopefully this reaches the right people.”
Indeed, it did. Hernandez’s TikTok has more than six million likes, over 50K shares, and thousands of comments.
“Just within the last 24 hours, we have earned enough to be able to stop driving.”
A day later, Slobodzian posted an update on his own TikTok account.
In it, the now-former Uber Eats driver explained the many months of work saving up for the wedding. The couple was in the final stages of funding the costly event.
Since the note included Slobodzian’s Venmo handle, the “tips” quickly started coming in. The donations weren’t just from friendly viewers, either. Reportedly, Chipotle sent the couple $500. The Knot made a “honeymoon fund” contribution.
Slobodzian thanked everyone for their kindness and support. His update has thousands of comments, including from Chipotle’s official account: “we love you king.”
The wedding date is set for September 21, 2024.
