This story may seem a bit ironic. Tesla and space seem to go together as the delusional Elon Musk built the Tesla Cybertruck for Mars. But in this case, being related to space is a bad thing. Thousands of Tesla Models are piling up in storage lots and can be seen from orbit.

Unsold Telsa models are visible from space

Houston, Tesla has a problem. Unsold Tesla Models have been piling up for months and filling up storage lots. Sherwood captured images of the lots from space with a satellite, showing tons of completed models that are just sitting pretty.

Last quarter, Tesla produced 433,371 models but only sold 386,810 of them. This means roughly 47,000 extra units are available. This amount has doubled since a year ago and it’s creating the biggest imbalance that Telsa has ever faced.

Tesla Chief Financial Officer, Vaibhav Taneja, shared that the biggest issue is Tesla’s -2.5 billion cashflow and spending on AI computing. It expects inventory built into reverse in the second quarter and cash flow to be positive during the second quarter.

But there’s more to the story, including a declining interest in electric vehicles. Buyers could be persuaded by rising competitors such as Hyundai and Nissan instead. Also, Ford EVs have positive sales growth for the quarter.

Heck, even providing massive price cuts for the Tesla Model Y and the full-time self-driving subscription hasn’t boosted sales.

Plus, Elon Musk could be destroying Telsa on purpose. He diverted Tesla’s supply of AI chips to his social media and AI companies, causing delays at Tesla.

If the shareholders refuse a $56 billion pay package, he threatens to leave the company. Why does a billionaire need that much cheddar? Perhaps to pay for Twitter.

Also, the unsold Telsa Models aren’t just visible at the gigafactory in Austin Texas. They’re being stored all over the country. For example, they can be spotted from orbit at the St. Louis Chesterfield Mall, the mall in Moreno Valley, California, and Sears.

It will be interesting to see how Tesla and Elon Musk perform under the pressure of so many unsold models, stay tuned for updates.
