There are some vehicles that are made for driving fast, and not all of them are high-performance cars like a Lamborghini. Your everyday drivers, like the Dodge Charger, tend to tempt their owners into pushing the pedal to the floor and revving the engine up. 

The only thing wrong with that is the money you’ll lose and the spot on your driving record when a trooper pulls you over for speeding. MotorTrend’s listing of vehicles that are more likely to get you a speeding violation and the Charger is one of them.

What sort of vehicles are on the list?

MotorTrend got their data from Insurify, which is a website that compares car insurance companies. Basing the information off of current driving records, they came up with a list of vehicles that earned more speeding tickets than others.

The car that came up most often was the Subaru WRX, which received speeding tickets 20.49 percent of the time. Nissan’s 350Z came in at the top of the list with only 14.65 percent as compared to the WRX. 

Some vehicles were a bit of a surprise, though. The Dodge Dart isn’t particularly a fast or sporty vehicle, but 15.45 percent of its drivers received tickets for speeding. However, some cars on the list weren’t that much of a surprise at all. The Dodge Challenger was one, and the Dodge Charger was the other. 

What could make Dodge Charger drivers susceptible to speeding violations?

The Dodge Charger had 14.71 percent of its drivers get pulled over for going too fast. A sedan that tops 203 mph on the highway, at least for some of its models, is likely to attract speeding violations. Who wouldn’t want to open it up and try going that fast, when the temptation is there? Of course, there’s more than just a speedometer tempting you. 

The Dodge Charger comes with several engine choices. For starters, it offers you a 3.6-liter V6 motor that generates around 300 hp. Then there’s the 5.7 and 6.4-liter V8 engines producing 370 and 485 hp. If those options aren’t enough for you, there’s the 6.2-liter V8 motor that generates a whopping 707 hp. When you spend good money on a car with motors like these, you want to put them to good use, right? But you’ll need to do it responsibly.

What does the new Dodge Charger offer?

Besides the exciting motors, the Dodge Charger offers owners plenty to show off. The roomy front and rear seats, for one, allow for more than enough space to haul around five adults comfortably. Even its cargo space offers ample room for storage. 

As far as fuel economy goes, the Charger gets around 27 mpg on the highway and 21 combined. Car and Driver, however, tested it and only managed 20 mpg combined. Acceleration times for the base model running on a 300 hp V6 motor, the Charger clocked a 6.4 second time for a 0 to 60 run. Braking distance came in at 176-feet when going from 70 mph to 0. 

The user-friendly infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android auto standard. Using the touchscreen itself is a breeze, since it has good response times. It’s not too difficult to figure out, so you don’t have to worry about getting distracted from the road while trying to access something on the display. 

The Charger is certainly fun to drive, and it’s easy to see why a good portion of its owners find themselves with speeding tickets. If you’re in the market for a new Dodge Charger to drive around in, you might want to stick to using your cruise control whenever possible; it just might save you from an expensive speeding ticket.
