Upcoming Toyota Models Have Something to Prove
Models like the Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla, or even the tough Toyota Tundra, are popular and durable. They are marketed as simple cars for simple purposes. However, some folks look at the Toyota lineup and think––boring.
So ho will the Japanese automaker continue propelling itself into the future? This year, we saw the release of new vehicles in the lineup up like the all-new 2021 Toyota Sienna. Plus, we got the return of the Toyota Venza as a hybrid-only model. While one is a wagon and the other a minivan, they aren’t boring. We expect to see this trend continue because coming Toyota models have something to prove. When you’ve been called boring as much as Toyota has, there comes a time when you realize it’s time to prove them otherwise.
Upcoming Toyota models
According to the video by Kirk Kreifels, Toyota is in the process of preparing for an “aggressive lineup overhaul.” In addition, an all-new battery electric vehicle (BEV) is in the making and should hit the U.S. “in the short term.” Toyota CEO claimed that the company will produce 25 new, redesigned, or refreshed vehicles within the next 16 months. These 25 upcoming Toyota models will hit dealer lots in the U.S. within the allotted amount of time, which is huge news.
So, for now, our knowledge of what Toyotas are to come is strictly speculative, it’s still fun to wonder––right? So what are we going to see in the next 16 months that means such an “overhaul” for the Toyota lineup? Let’s go through some of the possibilities.
Toyota vehicle upgrades and additions by 2022
So what will we see for 2022? Of course, we already know about the all-new 2021 Toyota Mirai. We could also see updates or refreshers done to the Toyota 86, the Supra, and others like the Toyota Corolla or Prius.
We are pretty certain we are going to see a refresh for the 2022 Toyota Avalon. It will probably be much like the minor refresh the new Toyota Camry received. Either way, we know that Toyota plans to strive harder when it comes to making their once boring commuter cars more interesting and appealing to younger buyers.
Future Toyota trucks and SUVs
We’ve also heard from various sources, that the 2022 Toyota Tundra should debut this year. After the 2022 Toyota Tundra releases, other trucks and SUVs are likely to go into production over its updated platform. The Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota 4Runner should also have all-new models releasing relatively soon.
The generations of Toyota trucks and SUVs run long, so we’ve been waiting quite a long time for upgrades to these trucks and SUVs. Speaking of SUVs, unlike the Tacoma and 4Runner, the Toyota Land Cruiser isn’t going to make it in the U.S. We probably won’t see a new Land Cruiser model in the U.S. again. We will, on the other hand, get updates to the Toyota Highlander and Toyota RAV4 crossovers.
Are there any new Prime models?
As 25 is a big bill to fill, you may be wondering how they will actually get 25 new models out in 16 months. So are we. In fact, they will include not only new vehicles but also updated or redesigned models as well. They will likely play on words a bit to get up to that 25 vehicle count.
This means that new Prime models of any Toyota will likely go down on the list. In addition to some new Prime models, let’s hope for a Toyota Corolla GR hot hatch. With a reputation for being a bit dated and boring, Toyota models have a lot to prove on the innovation and interest front. Regardless of what comes of this Toyota promise, we are excited to see what happens.
