Updating the 2025 Nissan Frontier Means Bad News for Rivals
The battle between mid-size trucks is growing. While most people are paying attention to the new Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma, the Nissan Frontier is waiting in the wings. Soon the 2025 Nissan Frontier will be ready to strike.
What to expect with the 2025 Nissan Frontier
The 2025 Nissan Frontier is receiving a mid-cycle refresh. Two prototypes have been spotted while wearing camouflage around the front and rear end.
It’s safe to expect revised headlights, a new grille design, and a tweaked bumper. The rear end will have similar updates and could gain a multi-functional tailgate. Also, we could see new wheel designs and exclusive paint colors.
The Frontier was just remodeled in 2022, so it isn’t too old. But it currently doesn’t look as modern as its recently refreshed rival trucks like the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and Toyota Tacoma.
While gaining a better exterior style is exciting, I’m mostly curious about the updated interior and tech. After driving the 2023 Nissan Frontier, I felt as if it wasn’t as advanced as other options.
The reverse camera and 360-degree camera views could use an improved resolution, the digital gauge cluster is plain and limited. Features such as ventilated seats, ambient interior lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto on lower trims, and terrain-specific driving modes.
Also, the steering in the Frontier is oddly heavy. Hopefully, the updated model will be calibrated differently to give your biceps a rest.
Mid-cycle refreshes typically don’t include engine upgrades, but that’s fine. The Frontier doesn’t need an upgrade. The 3.8-liter V6 engine with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque has the most standard power in the class.
It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.8 seconds, which is average for the class. But it has smooth transmission shifts and athletic handling to provide entertainment during daily commutes.
Also, the Frontier can tow up to 6,690 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,620 lbs. It can actually tow more than the Toyota Tacoma.
There’s a chance that a new off-roading Frontier Nismo trim could come out as well. This would allow the Frontier to go up against the Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.
