The 2009 Elantra sees ratings of up to 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway and has a moderate average price range of $5,723 to $7,090. So, while keeping it under or around $6,000 may not be easy, thrifty shoppers can pull it off.

2010 Mazda Mazda3
