Chevrolet makes a lot of great cars in several different segments, and some of Chevy’s best offerings are SUVs with three rows of seats. Those types of large SUVs tend to be expensive, but that’s where used SUVs can come in clutch. Here’s a look at two used Chevy SUVs that have three rows of seats while still being at a reasonable price.

The Chevy Tahoe and Traverse are great used three-row SUV options

U.S. News recently published a list of the best used three-row SUVs that cost between $15,000 to $20,000, and it was dominated by Chevy. The top three were all Chevy SUVs, and two Chevy models made the top of the list as well. They were the Tahoe and the Traverse. The 2013 model year of the Tahoe was tied with the 2014 Tahoe for first place overall. The 2016 Traverse came in at third place.

This allowed Chevy to beat out other great cars, such as the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Buick Enclave. The 2017 model year of the Traverse also did well enough to land a spot on the list, but its issues caused it to end up in 18th place.

Overall, the 2016 Traverse and the 2013 to 2014 Tahoe are great SUV options. But like any other car, they have their pros and cons, so used car shoppers will have to decide for themselves which one’s right for them.

The pros and cons of a used 2013 or 2014 Chevy Tahoe

One of the reasons why the Tahoe in the 2013 and 2014 model years was so great is because it was at the end of its generation. As a result, they had a good amount of features for the time, and Chevy fixed some of the issues that were common for the generation. That said, being the last model years of a generation also came with its own issues.

For example, U.S. News wrote that the 2014 Tahoe used “low-rent” plastics in its interior. And since these model years are nearly a decade old, their tech features are few and far between compared to modern Tahoes. For instance, Chevy only made rearview cameras and rear parking sensors standard features in the Tahoe’s 2014 model year.

Other than those problems, the Tahoe in both model years have similar positives. Chevy gave the SUV a 5.3-liter V8, and it got 320 hp. This was a powerful engine, and it was also relatively efficient. It allowed the SUV to get 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on highways, for 18 mpg combined.

Since they’re almost a decade old, they’ll be relatively cheap. The 2013 Tahoe can be bought for about $15,000, while the 2014 Tahoe is priced at about $18,000.

The pros and cons of a used 2016 Chevy Traverse

Despite the more recent model year, the 2016 Traverse can be bought for around $16,000, which isn’t that much more expensive than the 2013 Tahoe. Since the 2016 Traverse is newer too, it also has a few more tech features than the 2013 or 2014 Tahoe. Chevy started offering 4G LTE and a WiFi hotspot for the 2016 model year, and owners can add Apple CarPlay too.

Overall, the Traverse was a solid three-row SUV that was smaller than the Tahoe. It had a max seating capacity of eight compared to the Tahoe’s nine. That said, the Traverse’s cabin was quiet and good-looking, and the Chevy SUV also received good safety and reliability scores at the time of its release. Its main problem was its engine, as it only got 281 hp and that gave it weak acceleration.
