This Used Electric SUV Costs Pretty Much the Same In All 50 States
It’s a terrible time to buy a new or used car right now. Prices are high, parts are low, and the ongoing pandemic has made it so that supply chain disruptions are seemingly endless. If you’re looking for a used electric SUV, you’ll want to take some steps to make sure you get the best possible price. That just might include traveling to get a good deal on the vehicle you’re looking for. Don’t want to travel to shop? There’s one electric SUV that costs pretty much the same everywhere in the United States, making this a great choice for anyone who just wants a good deal on an SUV, now.
A used Volvo XC40 will cost you just about the same anywhere
There’s one used electric SUV that will cost you about the same amount of money whether you buy it in New York or Alaska, and that’s a Volvo XC40. iSeeCars says that the difference between buying an XC40 in the cheapest city (Phoenix, AZ) versus the most expensive city (Boston, MA) is only $4,170, which amounts to a difference of 7%.
Okay, so it’s not exactly a difference of 0, but it’s by far the smallest difference of any used electric car in the study. Out of 15 used electric cars, the XC40 comes in last. Spot number 14 belongs to the Volkswagen ID.4, which costs $7,400 or 14.6% more in Charlotte, NC than it does in Madison, WI.
The Tesla Model S will cost you a whole lot more in St. Louis
If you want a used Tesla Model S, you’ll want to be more particular about where you shop for it than with a used Volvo XC40. It will cost you $37,247 more in St. Louis, MO than in Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News, VA. That’s a difference of 38.8%. The Nissan Leaf is also much more expensive in some parts of the country than in others. Buy it in Knoxville, TN instead of Spokane, Washington, and you’ll spend $11,171 or 38.6% more.
Other used electric cars that cost a considerable amount more in some parts of the country include the Chevy Bolt, which costs 35.3% more in Seattle-Tacoma, WA than in Green Bay-Appleton WI. That’s a difference of $11,031. And the Tesla Model X is also pricier in San Antonio, TX than in either Mobile, AL or Pensacola, FL. You’ll spend $31,258 or 29.7% more to buy it in Texas. That’s probably worth the plane ticket.
Some people are traveling to buy new and used cars
With the enormous price discrepancies between used cars in various parts of the country, it’s no wonder that people are starting to travel to get a good deal. iSeeCars says that this just might be worth it. Karl Brauer, Executive Analyst, says that “When looking at the available used electric cars, used car prices can vary by as much as $41,913 between cities. In today’s market, deals on used electric cars are difficult to find, and even after purchasing a plane ticket or taking a road trip, consumers may find that traveling to buy a used electric car could be worth it for significant savings.”
If you’re looking for a new-to-you electric SUV or car, it just might be worth shopping around. Not just dealerships, but even states. After all, it could save you $30,000 or more, and that’s a big difference.
