The Ford Maverick is still a fairly new pickup truck. But, that does not mean models are not popping up on the used market. Because of its popularity, not everyone who wanted to buy a 2022 Ford Maverick was able to get one. This has led the Maverick to go from a cheap truck, to something that is not so cheap. Some examples of Ford’s small pickup have been popping up for nearly $40,000. And that is unfortunate for those that are shopping on a budget.

Can you buy a 2022 Ford Maverick?

If you are interested in buying Ford’s small truck, do not expect to pay sticker price or be able to order one directly from Ford. If you can’t wait for the 2023 model to be released, it seems like the best way to find a Maverick is to look to the used market or at a dealership. But what you find, might surprise you.

A quick search online shows that even the base Ford Maverick is commanding prices north of $30,000. And that is certainly more than the MSRP that starts around $20,000. For better equipped Maverick models, like the Lariat, it appears those are selling for over $40,000.

Should you wait for the 2023 Maverick?

If you find yourself in search of a small truck, but do not want to pay a premium, orders for the 2023 Maverick should be opening next month. According to Ford Authority, orders are opening later than expected, but they are coming. The 2023 Maverick will come with some legitimate changes, like the Tremor package. And that might make it worth waiting for.

Another perk of waiting for the new Maverick is the fact that you won’t have to pay large markups. That is, if you place your order in time to get Ford’s small truck via an online purchase. It is entirely possible that the 2023 Maverick could face the same supply issues as the 2022 model.

The Maverick was a cheap truck

When the 2022 Ford Maverick was announced, one of its major selling points was the fact that it was essentially priced like a compact car. But, unless you were lucky enough to order one from Ford, getting that cheap pricing is likely out of the question.

That said, the Ford Maverick is likely here to stay. Considering its popularity, it does not make sense for Ford to discontinue this vehicle. So, once the market cools down and more of this pickup truck is built, we should see pricing that adheres more to the MSRP.

When can you order the 2023 Ford Maverick?

Initially, orders for Ford’s small truck were supposed to open in August, but now that has been pushed to September 15th. Additionally, the production date has also been pushed back. Delays like this can be fairly disappointing. But, hopefully, Ford gets production figured out so more people can buy this compact pickup without having to pay significant markups.
