If your local dealership is struggling with new Toyota 4Runner inventory, don’t fret. It’s possible that you could find a great deal on a used Toyota 4Runner. However, when we say possible, we mean that you may have to get incredibly lucky because prices are sky-high.

Yes, you can save tons of money with a used Toyota 4Runner. It’s no secret that Toyota SUVs are durable, reliable, and hold their resale values. That means if you don’t think that your 4Runner is a good fit, you may not lose much when selling it or trading it in.

But the 4Runner is in high demand right now with limited availability. Finding a solid deal could be difficult. Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and the global semiconductor chip shortage, new vehicles are sparse.

This means that those who want to buy a brand new car are turning to used options. However, Toyota 4Runner models still increased in sales by 21.8 percent in the first half of 2021. Sales increased even though the 4Runner is about $3,800 more than rivals.

According to CarGurus, the price for a used model has increased by 0.71 percent during the last 30 days, 2.94 percent over the previous 90 days, and by 23.13 percent compared to last year.

Are used 4Runner models reliable?

Yes, used Toyota 4Runner models tend to be incredibly reliable depending on how well they were taken care of. According to owners, the 4Runner can last for up to 300,000 miles with regular care and maintenance.

According to customer reports, a fifth-generation 4Runner should have a life expectancy of up to 200,000 miles or 10 years on the road with adequate care. With regular oil changes, routine maintenance, and repair issues, as soon as they arise, you can prolong the life of your 4Runner.

Before buying a used 4Runner, be sure to go over the vehicle’s history report. Have a certified mechanic take a look and check it out for any potential issues.

Because Toyota SUVs have such an excellent reputation for lasting forever, it hasn’t been uncommon to see used models with high prices even if they have 160,000 miles or more. Options that hover around 200,000 miles are considered to be a little riskier.

Is a fifth-generation 4Runner worth it?

Yes, a fifth-generation Toyota 4Runner is a great SUV option to choose from. It’s the current generation, and it made its debut back in 2009 as a 2010 model. The ride and handling received improvements to become more truck-like.

In 2014, the 4Runner got a makeover that included an aggressive front end and HID headlights. This was when the TRD Pro trim arrived with equipment like TRD-specific springs and Bilstein shocks.

In 2020, the 4Runner gained the Toyota Safety Sense-P safety tech suite as a standard option. Plus, it comes standard with an 8-inch touch screen that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa.

Models from the third and fourth generations are excellent used Toyota 4Runner options as well. Earlier models may struggle with rust, wrapped brake rotors, and transmission failure. Currently, the fifth generation doesn’t display any significant concerns.
