The Vehicle Flying off Dealership Lots the Most in 2023 Costs Less Than $40,000
One data source shows that Ford F-Series pickup truck sales have doubled those of the next most popular model, the Toyota RAV4, for the first five months of 2023. While the F-Series nameplate covers trucks ranging from light-duty passenger vehicles to heavy-duty work trucks, the F-150 is the most popular model. Let’s look at the F-Series sales numbers and explore what makes the Ford F-150 so popular.
2023 Ford F-Series sales numbers
According to Good Car Bad Car, Ford sold 653,957 F-Series trucks in 2022, the lowest in a series of steadily declining years since a high of 909,330 in 2018. On the bright side for Ford, F-Series sales for the first five months of 2023 are looking up compared to last year.
In May 2022, Ford sold 49,454 F-Series trucks, but in May 2023, sales jumped to 70,566, a nearly 43% increase. The upward trend holds steady comparing 310,538 sales during the first five months of 2023 to 241,672 for the same period in 2022. However, 2023’s pace still falls short of 2018’s 371,934 sales for the period.
2023 Ford F-150 models and pricing
Ford lists the price for a base model F-150 XL at 33,695 before additional fees. The base XL features a two-door cab with seating for three, a 6.5-foot truck box, rear-wheel drive, and a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6 gasoline engine with 265 lb-ft of torque. Without any options, the estimated net price is $34,340 after destination charges and incentives.
The XL trim also offers an optional SuperCrew cab with four doors and seating for up to six people. It comes with a 325-hp turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 delivering 400 lb-ft of torque. The estimated net price climbs by about $9,000 to $43,580.
Regardless of your needs and desires, the upper end of Ford’s F-150 lineup has a model that fits. If you like a pickup with a luxurious interior, consider the $64,695 Platinum trim or the even more upscale Limited trim starting at $84,910. Next, the $60,970 F-150 Tremor is ready to work if you need a truck with rugged off-road capability. Finally, the F-150 Raptor delivers desert racing-inspired performance for $76,775.
Three additional models, XLT, Lariat, and King Ranch, fill out the lineup, presenting options and pricing to fit nearly any buyer.
Why is the Ford F-Series so popular?
The wide array of choices under one banner is among the most significant factors in the Ford F-Series’ popularity. For example, if General Motors were to combine Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra sales figures under one banner, Ford F-Series’ claim as Best Selling Truck would come under attack. However, there’s no denying that the F-150 is the most popular nameplate in America.
Ultimately, the array of options and reasonable prices lead more buyers to the Ford F-150, although the competition is gaining ground. The Ford F-150 offers three cab configurations, three truck box lengths, five engine options, including hybrid and diesel versions, and eight trim levels. You can also choose between two- and four-wheel drive, although some trims are only available with four-wheel-drive drivetrains.
