Vin Diesel is Going Electric in a Big Way in Fast and Furious 10
The Fast and Furious franchise built its reputation on gas-guzzling V8 muscle cars. So you might be shocked to hear that for the finale, Fast X, Vin Diesel is going electric. Fast and Furious 10 is the first part of the franchise’s two-part finale, set to hit theaters on May 19th, 2023. Eagle-eyed fans spotted Dodge’s Charger EV concept car and DeLorean’s electric supercar prototype on their way to the film’s set in L.A.
Is Dodge coming out with an EV?
Dodge has announced an entirely new electric and hybrid lineup by 2024. It has also revealed a two-door electric Charger concept car, but we’ll have to wait and see what the production version looks like and when it will hit dealership lots.
The first Dodge EV may actually be a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle: the Dodge Hornet R/T trim. This is a compact crossover SUV built on the Alfa Romeo Tonale chassis.
The hybrid and EV lineup for 2024 will probably include a fully redesigned Charger, Challenger, and Durango as well. The gas-powered versions may share eTorque mild-hybrid technology with current Ram pickup trucks.
In addition, we fully expect to see fully electric vehicles from Dodge. The company is moving fast to carve out space in the electric market with distinctly Dodge “eMuscle” sports cars. This American automaker has the benefit of a shared “STLA Large” chassis engineered by Stellantis. This chassis will support both hybrid and fully electric powertrains. It is for American muscle cars, high-performance European cars (i.e. Maserati), and SUVs (such as the Jeep Recon and Wagoneer S).
What is the car used in Fast and Furious 10?
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) will be driving a 2023 Dodge Charger Hellcat widebody in Fast and Furious 10, as well as resurrecting his iconic 1970 Charger R/T. Dodge’s new Charger Daytona electric concept car also rolled up to set, so we expect him to take the EV for a spin at some point.
Other cars spotted on set include: A gold-plated Lamborghini Gallardo. Lavender-colored classic Chevrolet Impala. Turbocharged Datsun 240Z with a widebody kit. Vintage Alfa Romeo 2000 GT. Lexus LS 500 F-Performance. A custom or prototype Harley Davidson. Chevrolet El Camino modified with rockets. 1966 Ford Fairlane. Convoy of Hummer H2s. And finally, a swarm of Alfa Romeo police cars.
What car is Dom’s Dodge Charger?
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) has driven a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T in most films of the Fast and Furious franchise. Dom reveals that he built it into a drag car alongside his father, so it makes sense that he restores it every time he crashes it. But in the films, he has also driven a series of both classic and brand-new Dodge Chargers.
Dodge’s new Charger Daytona EV is poised to appear in Fast and Furious 10 (also titled Fast X). Keen-eyed fans filmed it rolling through Los Angeles, in the neighborhood where the first movie was filmed. Sequels have re-used the same house as the exterior of the Toretto family home. If we had to guess, we’d say that after the film’s climax, the characters will return home and treat themselves to new electric supercars.
Will we get to see Vin Diesel drive the new Charger EV? We certainly hope so. Maybe he’ll even drag-race someone in the electric DeLorean. Find out what the fastest Charger in a Fast and Furious film actually was, or watch the Charger EV on its way to the Fast X set in the video below:
