There are few things in the universe cooler than a vintage Dodge pickup truck. Of all the vintage pickups, the 1968 Dodge power Wagon is among the absolute coolest. The only way to improve upon such inarguable perfection would be to do something crazy like put a 700-hp Hellcat Hemi. This thing is basically if Dodge made a Ram TRX in 1968.  

This vintage Dodge pickup truck is basically a rusty Ram TRX

The Drive reports that this 1968 Dodge Power Wagon is no ordinary pickup truck. This one was built by the folks at Roadster Shop. As you might have imagined, this isn’t your typical vintage Dodge pickup truck.

This ‘68 Power Wagon has been gone through in every way except the exterior. It may be rusty and crusty, but this Dodge has been fitted with a 700+-horsepower Dodge Hellcat Hemi. They didn’t just do the motor; the chassis and running gear has all been seen to. 

The Roadster Shop team backed up the swapped V8 with a 4L80E four-speed automatic. This pair can do some serious damage. The vintage Dodge also has Currie 60 VXR axles running through an Atlas transfer case. According to The Drive, the vintage Ram TRX stomps around in 37-inch BFG Mud Terrains, with everything suspended by new coil overs from Fox featuring remote shock reservoirs.

Obviously, there are already plenty of new parts, but they have to connect somewhere. The rusty old factory chassis was replaced by the shop’s own “RS4” platform. Typically, they use this custom chassis to build first-gen Broncos on, but it happens to work in this case. This chassis can be bought on its own from Roadster Shop for the low, low price of $36,495. 

The Drive mentions that this particular build uses a pushrod-style rear end. This is particularly cool because a truck like this should be ripped off-road as much as possible, and this rear-end style can protect the shocks from off-road damage. Every step in this build was perfectly executed to ensure this bad boy was as useable as it is badass. 

What would a build like this cost? 

Unlike a previous Chevy C10 build going for $250,000, this vintage Dodge pickup truck / Ram TRX monstrosity is not for sale. If the similarly well-built C10 is going for $250,000, you can assume this Dodge is likely in a similar price range. The Hemi Hellcat alone is about $20k, and the chassis is another $36k. Buying a decent donor Power Wagon would likely cost somewhere between $10k-20k depending on condition, and then you add the labor and other new parts. This is a rusty pickup truck that is easily deep in the six-figure range. 

This might be a far more expensive way to get into the muscle-truck world than is necessary. You can get a Ram TRX for $70k and a Ford Raptor for around $60k. This vintage Dodge Power Wagon will easily cost you more than buying one of each of the newer trucks. However, it goes without saying, the rusty, crusty vintage Dodge pickup truck is much cooler than 100 Ram TRXs.
