The Volkswagen ID.Buzz GTX Racing Trim Is Capped at 99 MPH
Move over, Herbie! There’s a new racer coming to town, known as the Volkswagen ID.Buzz GTX. This suped-up electric van has a speed limiter for your safety, but it can still hit 99 mph. Check out what to expect, because this Volkswagen ID.Buzz powertrain is coming to America.
What is the Volkswagen ID.Buzz GTX?
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz GTX is a racing-oriented trim level that packs an extra punch. It uses a 335-hp dual-motor powertrain to provide a more engaging electric minivan experience.
Plus, the setup is paired with all-wheel drive to handle inclement weather situations. One 107-hp motor sits on the front axle and a 282-hp motor sits on the rear axle.
In Europe, the ID.Buzz GTX will wear unique badging, but this option is dropping the GTX title in America. Perhaps it will use GLI or R-line.
The European model also features unique bumpers, exclusive wheel designs, is available without a two-tone look, and the interior pops with red accent stitching.
Also, Europeans can pair this powertrain option with the short wheelbase or long wheelbase models, but America is only getting the long wheelbase variant.
The standard 2025 VW ID.Buzz starts with a single motor on the rear axle that cranks out 282 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 91-kWh batter pack. The GTX can be paired with a 79.0-kWh battery pack or an 86.0-kWh unit.
Volkswagen shared that the top speed of the GTX is capped at 99 mph, but didn’t mention any acceleration estimates.
The VW ID.4 has a similar powertrain setup and an EPA-estimated range of 275 miles on a single charge. Rumors suggest that the ID.Buzz is aiming for a 250-mile range. The ID.Buzz is expected to replenish its battery from 10 to 80% in roughly 26 minutes.
Pricing for the VW ID.Buzz hasn’t been released. It’s expected to start at around $50,000, which makes sense for the premium van. The 12.3-inch touchscreen and electrochromic panoramic sunroof provide a premium feel.
Upgrading to the GTX powertrain will probably add a few thousand bucks to the price, but it might be worth it!
