The Volkswagen Tiguan Is Finally Solving 1 Crucial Issue
We aren’t saying that the Volkswagen Tiguan is a bad SUV. It’s an excellent option to consider and serves as one of the most popular VW SUVs in America. However, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan could be better and will be soon thanks to extra power.
The Volkswagen Tiguan has more power on the way
While we love the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, a new and improved model is on the way. Both the VW Tiguan and VW Atlas will have a new generation in America as they continue to be VW’s best-selling options in the United States.
According to AutoBlog, the new generation will have more power under the hood. Hien Schafer, Senior Vice President of Product and Strategy for Volkswagen America shared that there will be a VW Tiguan Successor.
He didn’t say if a full-blown R model will be in the mix, but he confirmed that there will be a derivative in the line-up that will have a little more oomph and a little more giddy-up. So, we can expect a sportier model.
Hien mentions that the new option could have up to 100 to 150 more horsepower than other variants in the lineup. There is a Volkswagen Tiguan R in Europe with 315 hp, but it’s not available in America.
That’s because the Tiguan R is only available with the short wheelbase, and America only has the long wheelbase variant. However, things could change with the new generation.
How much power does the 2022 Tiguan have?
The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that provides 184 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.9 seconds, which is a bit slow for the class.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that struggles with providing smooth acceleration. The power delivery can seem a bit delayed but the steering is responsive and the Tiguan feels stable around curves. However, the brakes could be stronger.
When properly equipped, the Tiguan can tow up to 1,500 lbs, which is behind rivals like the Toyota RAV4 which can tow up to 3,500 lbs. It also has a payload capacity of up to 1,416 lbs.
Front-wheel drive comes standard, but you can add the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system for about $1,300. This is an expensive upgrade and the Tiguan only has a ground clearance of 7.6 inches.
However, the AWD modes for Onroad, Snow, Offroad, and Custom Offroad help you stay in control during slippery conditions.
Does the VW Tiguan have nice features?
Yes, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is crafted to provide luxury and comfort with a spacious interior, smooth ride, and quiet cabin. The seats in the first and second rows provide plenty of cushion and support. But the third row is only large enough for children.
The Tiguan comes with an 8-inch touchscreen that’s easy to use. Plus, you can opt for an 8.0- or 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster that can be customized to display a variety of crucial information.
The VW Tiguan is comfortable and filled with value, but it’s just a little slow. Making the Tiguan sportier is exactly what this SUV needs in America, and we can’t wait for the new and improved model.
