Voyah Dreamer, the World’s Quickest Minivan: Coming to US?
When you think of a minivan, quickness is undoubtedly a word that does not cross your mind. People typically associate a minivan as a slow-moving, people-hauling, family vehicle, not something that could win a drag race. However, soon, a minivan with fast acceleration will go on sale in China: the 2022 Voyah Dreamer. It claims the title of the world’s quickest minivan. Is it coming to the United States?
What is the world’s quickest minivan?
The Voyah Dreamer made its debut last November at the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show. It will soon be available to buy in China, with the option for an all-electric model and a range-extending hybrid model.
The 2022 Voyah Dreamer EV features dual electric motors, which produce an output of 429 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. With its powerful electric motors, the Dreamer EV boasts a 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 5.9 seconds. This impressive acceleration of the Dreamer pushes it to the top as the world’s quickest minivan. Also, the Dreamer EV has an electronically-limited top speed of 124 mph.
While these specs for Voah Dreamer are eye-opening, the Voyah Free electric SUV is even more impressive. Based on the same EV platform as the Dreamer, the Free generates 684 and 767 lb-ft and has a 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) time as low as 4.6 seconds. It has the same 124 mph top speed as the Dreamer, though.
With its higher output, the all-electric Dreamer is quicker than the range-extending version. The range-extending version has a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and twin electric motors, with a total system output of 389 hp and 450 hp lb-ft of torque. It has a 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 6.9 seconds. Like the all-electric Dreamer, the range-extending version has an electronically-limited top speed of 124 mph. For electric driving range, the all-electric Dreamer can travel up to an estimated 373 miles, and the range-extending version provides 435 miles of range.
2022 Voyah Dreamer: Exterior and interior design and features
As detailed by Carscoops, the 2022 Voyah Dreamer “combines premium features with excellent practicality and great performance for the segment.” Notable exterior features and design elements of the Dreamer include a huge front grille, full-LED lighting, chrome accents, electric sliding doors, and low ground clearance. Also, compared to other premium minivans like the Lexus LM and Lexus LM and the Buick GL8 Avenir, the Voyah Dreamer is larger.
Inside the cabin, the Dreamer offers minivan buyers the option of a four-seat or a seven-seat configuration. The four-seat configuration has two captain’s chairs for the rear seats, while the seven-seat configuration has a 2+2+3 layout. Notable interior features include heated and ventilated seats with a massaging function, three display screens, reclining footrests, 5G connectivity, a Dynaudio sound system, and vegan leather upholstery.
Also, the Dreamer has Level 2+ autonomous driving capability and an adaptive air suspension.
Will the Voyah Dreamer be available to buy in the US?
American car shoppers hoping to buy the 2022 Voyah Dreamer, the world’s quickest minivan, will likely be disappointed, for it probably won’t be sold in the U.S. For one, Voyah doesn’t yet sell any of its models in the U.S. Also, Voyah is a division of Dongfeng Motor Corporation, which is a Chinese government state-sponsored company. Given the contentious political climate between China and the U.S., American regulators are unlikely to approve the sale of the Dreamer or any other Dongfeng vehicles.
However, Dongfeng has a robust presence in China, so the outlook of the world’s fastest minivan looks promising. The 2022 Voyah Dreamer will be released in July 2022. Its starting price ranges from ¥380,000-¥480,000 ($59,694-$75,403) for the seven-seat version and ¥600,000 ($94,254) for the four-seater model.
