If you follow the Race of Champions you’ve heard of Vühl, the Mexico City-based manufacturer of these street-legal little roadsters. That’s all good, but if you wanted a Vühl of your own, you were out of luck if you lived in the US. That is, until now.

Two Vühl Dealers

Vühl now has two dealers in the US—both in California, with more to come. The first dealer is commercial partner ISSIMI in Redwood City, and the other is Black Shadow Motors in Murietta.

If you’re not acquainted with Vühl think of the Ariel Atom with more body panels and a monocoque tub instead of tubing. Now you kind of have the picture. It started manufacturing them in 2013 in Mexico. 

Vühl 05

Vühl now manufactures three different track cars: the 05, 05ROC, and 05RR. The 05 starts at $112,000 and is a 1,609 lb car powered by a 2.3-liter Ford EcoBoost engine with 320 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. At that weight and power, this thing will tear up a track. All of this rides on an aluminum monocoque chassis with a lightweight fiberglass body.

From there you can option up with a slew of different combinations. A carbon hybrid chassis and body panels lighten things up some more. With a Stage 2 EcoBoost, you’re up to 360 hp and 358 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard. The top speed is listed at 155 mph. Zero to 62 mph times are 3.7 seconds.

Vühl 05 ROC

Moving up to the 05 ROC version starts with a carbon fiber body mounted to the standard carbon and aluminum monocoque chassis. Though fitted with the same EcoBoost engine the upgrades include an aero kit with a taller, wider rear wing, four slotted brake rotors, wider Michelin Super Sport tires in the back, plus race series spec parts.

Inside there’s the Schroth five-point harness, smaller Momo steering wheel, and a color dash display. All of this brings the 0-to-62 mph times down to three seconds flat but you know that better always comes with a cost, this one being $127,000.

Vühl 05RR Road and Race

The 05RR is the top model. The “RR” stands for Road and Race. Weight is reduced an additional 77 lbs to 1,455 lbs. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost output is now 400 hp and 380 lb-ft ft torque. The zero-to-60 time is reduced to 2.7 seconds. 

The RR achieves this with a lightened flywheel, race clutch, carbon fiber wheels, and the entire powertrain is lowered into the chassis. The suspension is not lowered but remains at the height of the other models. Obviously, the lower engine location gives the car a lower center of gravity for impressive handling.

But there’s more. A limited-slip diff, Eibach springs, faster Titan rack, wider Michelin rubber, honeycomb floor, carbon fiber body panels, and downforce setup, make the RR capable of 1.8G of lateral acceleration. Strap in tight! Prices start at $147,500.

For you weight freaks there is also an optional titanium bolt package for the chassis and carbon ultra-lightweight wheels with a center locknut. All-in-all this could be a lot of fun if your budget can afford the price to play.
