The Infiniti Q60 is luxurious and beautiful — but don’t let its incredible styling fool you. The unfortunate fact is that the Q60 is lacking in many of the features it needs to provide safety and comfort to its passengers. Although it made Carfax’s list of the best all-wheel-drive sports cars in 2020, you might want to wait before splurging on this vehicle.

The Infiniti Q60’s gorgeous exterior doesn’t make up for its flaws

According to Carfax, the 2020 Infiniti Q60 made it to the top 10 of the best all-wheel-drive sports cars, and there’s no doubt that it has its advantages. It is beautiful to look at, with sleek styling and bold, distinctive bumpers. The Q60 also provides a pleasant ride experience, with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that makes 300 hp — or, if you opt for the Red Sport trim, 400 hp. When it first had released in 2017, things looked promising for this beautiful sports car.

However, the Q60 has its fair share of problems that even the most appealing design can’t hide. It has been recalled multiple times throughout the years for various reasons that range from electrical issues to rear seatbelt problems. This has led the Q60 to receive poor reliability ratings from J.D. Power.

This vehicle is also not exceptionally comfortable once you’re inside, especially if you’re a taller individual. The rear seats have minimal amounts of headroom, and the Q60 is challenging to climb in and out.

A serious lack of user-friendly features

Other than the addition of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the Infiniti Q60 has received minimal changes or upgrades since 2017. This lack of thoughtful design shows, particularly in the infotainment system. While it has a few of the features you might hope for — including a dual-screen display and HD radio — the system is complicated, with unintuitive controls that are difficult to get used to using. 

Additionally, fans of manual transmissions need to shop aftermarket to get a manual Q60. A minor detail, maybe, but another factor that sets the Q60 behind some of its competitors.

Perhaps of more concern is the absence of safety features available in the 2020 Q60. This is something that Nissan has taken steps to rectify for the 2021 model, and is one of the biggest reasons it’s a good idea to wait instead of purchasing the current model year.

Unlike the 2020 Q60, 2021 will come standard with adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree parking camera system, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beams, and lane departure warning. While we may not see many other changes, the addition of so many safety features is well worth waiting for in this SUV.

Not a promising future

Although the 2021 Infiniti Q60 may offer some improvements, things aren’t looking great for the brand as a whole. It’s no secret that Nissan — Infiniti’s parent company — has been struggling for a while now. From a scandal with its former CEO to a complete lack of sales in Western Europe in 2019, Nissan is reported not to have made any profit last year.

This doesn’t bode well for the Infiniti brand, suffering from an outdated vehicle lineup and a failed attempt to market itself as a technological leader. Now Infiniti is shifting toward a focus on EVs, a transition that may take years. And unfortunately for fans of the Q60, this vehicle — and the brand itself — may be off the market by 2030 unless it receives a luxurious overhaul.

There’s always time to turn things around, and we hope that Nissan can do so. Until then, be sure to wait until at least 2021 to pick up the Infiniti Q60.
